Thanks Muris! smile.gif

I've just used a PODxt plugged straight into the computer/soundcard. And the PODxt preset is the same as we used in the "You Ready-collaboration".

Steve,

I have no tricks I'm afraid!! laugh.gif

The pickups I use is the cheapest ones that's avalible in sweden.
http://shop.gmf.se/product.htm?product_id=...mp;search_page=

They cost about 60 USD (which is a very low price for a pickup, in sweden)

Steve - have you tried using the preset and record a total of four identical takes on a riff? Do that and then "pan" two takes to the left and two to the right. This will call for monster heaviness! biggrin.gif

Marcus is too modest to say so, but its his playing - a lot of tone comes from cleanliness of playing, I would say at least 50% - Marcus or Kris could make any guitar sound awesome! So, concentrate on practice not buying gear ... (and ignore the fact that I can't take my own advice laugh.gif laugh.gif laugh.gif laugh.gif )

Cool i'll give that one a try. I think i remember Marcus telling me something similar to this. I've only been playing to it with just my guitar no recording. Wouldn't it be not so good if you played live though tongue.gif. also do you do the same with your solos?

huh.gif Wow! Never tried that before. Sounds interesting! I've always done one track for guitar paned center. Guess I need to experiment a little! biggrin.gif

"Doubling" or dubbing is the number one key to great recording sound. That is why - as Andrew sais - focusing on learning to play perfect is the number one key to great recording sound.

You can get away with cheap amp simulators (I even think there are free software plugins) to create a monster sound - provided you can replicate a riff perfectly a couple of times.

Andrew says a lot of things.... laugh.gif I'll never play perfect, just like I planned! So I think four tracks of the same mistake would sound good. dry.gif biggrin.gif

Could you not just copy the recorded track 4 times and pan them differently?

It could work if you add different effects/eq to each and every one of the tracks, but in most cases it won't sound good.
The only thing you'll achieve is a louder output (higher volume). smile.gif

Yeah,Marcus is right here. smile.gif
You can add efx-s but it'll still be the same take.
And playing it twice has feel of "human's time walking",which is truly doubling. smile.gif

Yes, but its nowhere near as good. Its the minute differences that make the techniques sound more stereo and makes the sound bigger - but the differences have to be MINUTE or it just sounds sloppy. You will never play the same thing 100% identical all the time, but you need to be VERY close, maybe 99.9999% smile.gif Then you get the benefit of the bigger sound.

You can so this to some extent artificially using delays and playing with EQ and phase, but its easier and better to play it twice identically. It works awesomely well for acoustic guitar strumming as well.

EDIT : Oops, beaten by Muris AND Marcus!

Ok i guess it makes sense, because really to the computer all your saying is i want the exact same thing twice whereas when you write a new track it's making a completely new one except to us of course it's intended to be the same. Yeah i just heard marcus's rhythm bit and realised it's the same as the collab preset. But i don't know if it's supposed to be like this but mines really muffled sounding, is that right? :S. I mean there's no way you could use that live i'm thinking it sounds aweful on its own. I had a little go at what you said about doubling today as just a little experiment and it did sound better but still not quite the same so i think i need to mess about with it a bit more
