Hello Todd,

Here is my take. As my schedule with Gab is pretty tight I've crammed this one in this evening, I only listened to the backing once before improvising over it blink.gif This was the third take so don't expect much biggrin.gif

I'll try another one if this is too bad. If it does level up, I'll go up to level 7, just so you know for the badge wink.gif

Nicely done! Especially considering you only heard it once before taking a pass at it. I really dig what you did with it too. I noticed that you focused on the pentatonic scale. You did quite well with it and the solo worked as well smile.gif I'd say try to throw in some licks one octave up for variety even if you stay in the same scale. Even better, throw bits of the minor scale in with bits of the pentatonic. This is a trick that has been used to great effect by countless legendary Axe Men, not the lease of which is Kirk Hammet. In other worlds you just LEVELED UP!!

CONGRATS!!!

Thanks Todd,

I tried a couple of different things in there, one being multiple bends from one pick of the string.

Cheers

I noticed that smile.gif Nicely done. If you do a second take, do try to pop some minor elements in to see how it works in a solo context. I think you'll dig it smile.gif

NICE!!! You are really putting all the bits together. You are not just stringing licks one by one, you are "writing" the solo. The single string bit serves as the "Chorus" or Melody Line that gets repeated and serves as the base of solo. Then you play around that lick with a very cool, almost Egyptian vibe. Your combining technique and musicality which is what I like to see smile.gif

Congrats!!

You just...

LEVELED UP!!!

Been busy of late. Things settling so more time to play. Just working on some ideas. No vid yet. I went outside recommendations and tried some alternate stuff. I played Gmajor in the first part then switched to Gminor while checking out Cooper AxeFx Amp Switching Preset on the fly. Nothing fast or fancy. I like throwing in a major tonality note during minor runs so I thought I'd check playing a major influence melody against a minor backing. Anyway, maybe I get some time to record the vid around work.

NICELY DONE!!!!!!!!

I like how you played "in context" e.g. you slowed down and backed off a bit when the tune went in to the mid section/breakdown bit. That's what I'm looking for. Your playing with the backing instead of just over top of it. You've come a long way since the very start to be sure. Watch this vid again and then watch a solo vid from maybe a year ago or so. See if you can see the same difference I'm seeing. I think you'll be impressed with yourself as I am!!!

P.S. How are you liking that guitar and your new 11 Rack? Also, did you try the patch that I made for this lesson? Getting started with connected the 11 rack to your computer can be a bit of a pain in the neck so let me know if I can offer any tips. Anyhoo, you just.....

Hey!

Since I didn't get around to make a shred fest video so far, I just thought, well, just do a quick take, it's better than nothing, even if it's not perfect. So I just took my second take (after fooling around for some minutes). I guess that reflects my playing better anyway smile.gif

On hindsight, I would probably have changed the style in the slow part once the distorted guitars start again. That calls for something more lively I think. And the bends in the final part are way too high biggrin.gif

But anyway, here it is cool.gif

WELCOME TO THE CLUB!!!

It's not a huge club, just those who have chosen to take the challenge and put themselves out there for all to see, soloing over material they have probably never soloed over before. It takes stones to meet to meet the challenge. Well done smile.gif

First off, NICE AXE!!! Keep that thing no matter what. It will serve you well!

On to the Solo!!! Well played! I can tell from your post notes that you may not have a ton of experience in solo work, so it takes even larger cahones to take the plunge and video yourself doing it. I thought you did rather well actually smile.gif Your timing is good, the licks all work, there aren't any mistakes as far as I can see and the entire bit works as a "solo". It looks like you have a good handle on your scales and licks and are ready to play in front of folks. I'd say take video of everything you can and keep it all in a playlist (even an unlisted playlist if you don't want everyone else to see it) on youtube so that you can always go back and see where you were vs where you are. If you spend a bit of time here on GMC, I think you are going to see yourself progress by leaps and bounds and be shocked when you go back and look at your first recordings. You are playing well as it stands, given a bit of time on GMC and some woodshed work, you are gonna get really good really quick smile.gif So welcome to the club and here is your first Challenge Badge. I customized it based on your screen name which made me think of the Wyvern smile.gif

Awesome! Thank you! Cool badge, I'll wear it proudly cool.gif

Will try to do the next challenges as well if time permits it (although not the next one since I'm on vacation then). Very good advice concerning the videos. Since I started at GMC I already made 8 videos. Those are 8 videos I didn't have before which I already consider to be progress. So I'm really excited to see what the future brings smile.gif

The badge looks good on ya!!! smile.gif I Hope you do get time for the next challenge. It should be a fun one smile.gif GMC can be an amazing resource. Of course, one gets out what one puts in but it looks like you are putting in quite a bit so I'd say expect great results! Keep it up smile.gif

Todd

Working Tues-Sat makes submission difficult. Maybe I get to a video tonight but gots lot to do. Stayed in the vein this time. Lots of fun. Played without a pick and just my fingers only, barrel roll style, hence the attack is somewhat different. Came in a bit early at the pause too.

Nice work!!! Dig the solo smile.gif You can use a cell phone to record the vid and use the mic on the cell phone and just let it pick up the audio from your home speakers and or amp etc. That way vids can be quick and dirty smile.gif Web cam works too, anything that shoots video is fine, quality is a secondary issue to being able to see your fingers going for it against the backing. The only reason I make video a requirement is so that other folks can see your fingers and get an idea of what you are doing and maybe grab bits of it to use in their own work smile.gif So that way this becomes a learning clinic for everyone as well as a performance clinic for those in the vids. You can shoot a new solo if you like or play the one you've got, whatever is easiest for you smile.gif I think you have a good handl on this one and I think you are off on Sunday, so I here by extend the deadline just for you so you can have time to get a vid in and get the badge that is well deserved!!!!

I"m putting up a new collab Sat, maybe you can shoot them both at once on Sunday? Whatever works for you works for me smile.gif I hope you can share a vid with us, you've got some cool chops there that would contribute nicely to the group!!

Todd
