OK,
Been under a lot of pressure at work, needed some retail therapy, been slowly going off my drive tones from my Boss GT-100 and not practising/recording as much through my mic'd up cab because I am playing things many many times over and over and it must do my wife's head in, though she never complains smile.gif so I thought I'd try something else rolleyes.gif
Not got this properly setup yet, I'll do it at the weekend. Thinking of using my GT100 in the fx loop for the effects this hasn't got but I'll see how it goes.
Lovely build quality. Had to do a blind buy as only Andertons stock them and they are miles away from me but it gets immense reviews. Not as flash as a Helix but a lot cheaper. The GUI on the PC is great too. Got loads of free patches from the Atomic Amps site (two downloads).
I'm going to take time to fine tune this little beast and get the most from it.

Congrats! adding this link here if needed later on smile.gif http://atomicamps.com/wp-content/uploads/2...Manual-V4.0.pdf

Definitly an upgrade from gt001! smile.gif I checked the manual and really liked the tweaking abilitys, not over the top detailed either which is also good. After getting used to it, I suggest focusing on the cabinet section as it has nice control options for you to shape your tone to backingtracks as it has all the eq sort of needs inside it.

I have a similar (maybe a bit bigger) sized processor thats used as an amp and connected to the soundcard. Placed on my right floor when I'm in front of the computer, once setuped (takes a while but worth it) the footswitches are very comfy when changing presets, adding delay etc... . Enjoy! smile.gif

Thanks Mertay,

Man, it's fantastic. On the GT-100 and the GT-001 I used to get a fizzy kind of noise when the notes were sounding out if I used something like reverb. It was only there when the note was sounding though, almost like the sound of the processor at work while processing the digital aspect of the tone. This doesn't have any of that at all, well not that I've noticed yet anyway. The only noise is from high gain settings which is normal I would have thought.

I'm really impressed, not in the slightest disappointed, it makes the GT-100 look like a play thing. This doesn't have as many effects but what it does have it does well. I would have gone for the cheaper one but I was future proofing with the routing capabilities.

I wish my playing was up to the level of my gear laugh.gif laugh.gif laugh.gif

The editor is great too.

Awesome! In that price range, nothing can touch it, so I'm sure you'll be happy. The editor is especially nice (I was offered the gig to write the editor, but was too busy at the time and had to decline). I hope the therapy was successful smile.gif.

HUGE upgrade from your other unit and a KILLER bit of kit that is built like a tank and has killer patches. It's got a huge amount of
tones in there and plenty of foot switches to get at them. Real foot switches to boot smile.gif Many congrats and enjoy!

Very nice! I was really considering the previous model when I was shopping for a new modeler. I went the safe route with the Helix, but part of me thinks the Atomic is 99% of the tone for a lot less money. I would be really interested to see more detail about it after you get familiar with it.

Decided not to keep the GT100. The extra effects it has I can do without or use plugins for the rare occasions I use them. This thing has gotten me away right out of the box. I'll put some bog standard sounds on here later this evening.

Over the moon with this, getting butterflies thinking about playing through it later.

Nah, don't think like that smile.gif actually it may well turn out different as the subtle stuff coming out clearer may help you advance in better detail and work even more. I'm noticing this starting to happen to me as I bought a pedal a while ago.

As for the Boss unit, it really up to you but rumor is maybe in less than a year they're going to release a procossor that will be their new flagship. I don't think the used value on gt100 will decrease but it might take a bit longer to sell when this happens.

Thanks Mertay,

I think I'm going to put it for sale this weekend. I don't think I can be arsed to fanny around sorting levels between the two. I may add a whammy pedal to the fx loop of the AA12 if I see fit later on.

All I changed was to add a noise gate, I didn't mess with it, just switched the gate on and left it alone.

The patch is called "Infinite Lead" guitar is PRS SE Custom 24, neck pick up. All I changed was to add a noise gate, I didn't mess with it, just switched the gate on and left it alone. Please ignore the timing, I was enjoying the sustain smile.gif

Obviously they will all sound better when using different guitars and with some fine tuning but for "out of the box" sounds and with my fingers not having much tone in them yet, I think it's great and can only get better with time smile.gif

Here is the mighty Rabea Massaad checking it out. He does it more justice than me wink.gif

It should also take your analog pedals well too as thats how I like using a processor, and on top of that being able to load ir's into it alone is a step-up from its competitors.

But I'd say keep the ir testing phase for the last as that can be a bit confusing given there are so many ir's out there. Besides, lets say you liked X ir while a preset is set to amplifire's ir, it only take some (usually minor) eq tweaking to adjust things so no worrys.

I think you made the right call smile.gif You really don't need the GT100. It's just not in the same league as your new box and you can use plugins, like you said if you need something not in the atomic. But honestly it's got wads of fx so you will probably be fine smile.gif You just gotta dig deep in to in and get to know it. It's like getting to know a new gal, it costs wads of time and can be frustrating, but it's worth it smile.gif Well done on getting the bigger one. You got sooooooo much more flexibility with huge board of switches like that, you can do just about anything in real time. Congrats again smile.gif

Todd

Thanks Todd,

I've had a second thought about the GT100 . I would like to sell it but it has some effects that I've used in the creativity workshop that I'm not sure I could get. If the creativity workshop comes back i might miss them. Maybe i could get them with the Amplifire 12 but I don't know how. Some of the effect blocks have many knobs so maybe it is possible.

I used the Slow Gear effect in this.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jiDgj_NrPW8

I used Tera Echo in this for the effects and can't remember what i used for the guitar tone. Tera Echo pedal alone is £140 blink.gif
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8qs8KFPQBD8

I think I should be able to get similar to this but don't know how. I was lucky to find a patch very close in my Gt100 so i had a good starter.

I can understand that this can happen with every gear change, specially processors. My experience is in time if ever needed, one never bothers to pick it up (the gt100 is pretty big too) and connect it just for 1 effect biggrin.gif and even then things feel like dealing with a downgrade...

I know you have limited time but with this device you can create a lot of creative effects once you get to know them. The delays for example offer up to 4 tap (similar to terra) plus can get different tonalitys (try very low bucket value for example or add chorus)...sooner or later you'll have to dig deeper in such effects anyway there's no escaping that laugh.gif

Lucky for you boss has most of its effects in stompbox format either continued or discontiued. For example the terra is still around but the slowgear is not, then you can look around and notice mooer has slow gear etc. if such effect is needed. Or in time you can go high-end for such effects by getting an Eventide sort of device connected to the atomics fx loop wink.gif

I guess what I'm trying to say is this is the nature of gear evolution and personalizing. I'm ok with the idea of working with 2 processors simultaniously but if one will stay in standby or off almost all the time then to be honest it doesn't hold much value for the user.

Not with an Amplifire, no. The effects in the Amplifire are pretty basic. That's the whole point of the Amplifire. They keep the price low by focusing on just the amp models. Maybe you don't need any fancy effects. But your examples suggest you do. If so, you might be able to make do by applying those effects in your DAW when recording. Otherwise, I'd suggest hanging on to the GT100 or you might regret selling it.

Thanks folks.
I might give it a week or two, I'll try the GT100 in the fx loop first. If it's a ball ache getting it working I'll get rid of it, I'm certainly not going back to just using the GT100 by itself.

How about the SatIrani tone? Do you think that's possible?

Cheers

How about taking notes from that preset (writing down the chain and values) and try applying it to the atomic? this would also be a good way to get familiar with the unit tonally.

The values may not match 100% but by ear can be corrected, we'll discuss alternative or solutions if an fx needed isn't present in the atomic (this would also help you descide on keeping the boss or not)
