I had no idea PRS made SE models in indonesia till today we went for a PRS hunt with a friend.

Atleast with the models we tried, the Korea's sounded better and the price difference wasn't too much when compared. The built quality was fine in fact Korea models had very tiny blemishes that one wouldn't care while the I couldn't find anything wrong with the indo. But soundwise the Korea models did sound more woody.

And first time I actually compared 3-4 PRS SE 's side by side, they all had a different character. So when possible (just like a LP) try comparing before buying one.

It always comes down to the guitar imho : I had a couple of XIPHOS guitars made in indonesia and they were both fine axes

I thought the SE was Korean. Is the indo SE line a new thing?

I saw posts dating back to 2014 but the PRS fans started to notice around 2016. Maybe we'll see a new line priced more for beginners and these indo's are there for market research.

Ever since that thread, I kind of frown when I see a PRS.

Thinking about it, they did overall feel lighter than expected for me.

My friend who works in the store had a chance to select an SE for himself out of maybe 30-40 from the stores inventory, after inserting (gibson 57 I think) low-output pickups its one of the best sound and feeling guitars I ever played. And the guitar he selected was heavy, that may be one of the tricks to find a decent prs se.

I thought the SE was a stripped down version already. what are they cutting from the Korean SE to make it cheaper?
Seems to be almost £300 difference over here between them.

I compared the cheapest korea vs cheapest indo, koreans can go high depending on the price.

For the price the indo I tried was ok I guess but the korean was better at probably everything.

You have no idea how amusing (fascinating) it is for an old dude like me (55) to listen to a discussion about the merits of Korean versus Indonesian guitars.

As a beginner in the mid 90's I can understand that

I had almost no interest to asian guitars till about 5+ years ago. Probably cause of terrible chinese (+ fake chinese) guitars domination back then lead everyones interest to other asian country products, then friends started handing me guitars to try...must admit when talking about a "good korean/indo" its always about how much closer it is to American/Japanese made rather the guitar itself (atleast this is my way of judging).

It's all relative. That's the source of my amusement and fascination.
My first electric guitar was a (POS) Japanese SG copy that cost less than $65 with a case.
My first semi-hollow was an Ibanez 'Artist' 2629 that was $175 whsc. *I still have this guy as it's a good axe.

Do you get where I'm going with this? There were no merits to discuss. They were cheap guitars that we bought because we had no money ... and we were embarrassed by them.

Fast forward almost 30 years and 1) my Ibby, my '97 CIJ jazzmaster and my two Teiscos are highly revered, sought after and kinda pricey. All decent to good guitars but nothing special really.

It just goes to show ya ...

*I'm not a PRS fan but the SEs I've tried in shops are all pretty decent instruments. Way better than the 'affordable' strunz we had access to in the 70s and 80s.
