Anyone else just hate rendering video? You spend time on the shoot/edit, then hit render. A 3 minute video ends up taking 30 minutes plus to spit out after you put color correction/plugins on the vid. That's on a quad core i7/16gb ram/ssd rig. So the rig is plenty beefy. If it's a 6 minute vid, it can take an hour to render. I guess it's just the universe teaching me patience smile.gif

I suppose I don't have to use cpu heavy color correction plugins, but video looks so much better with a bit of the MOJO plugin on it imho. Without it, vid tends to look just a bit cheap it seems. Here is a quick vid about it if you've never heard of it. It's a great way to give your vids a bit of polish imho but it can be easily overdone just like ozone on audio. This vid claims it's fast to render, that is a LIE. It's fast to preview, does it in real time in premiere. But it's a render hog.

Am I the only guy that gets antzy waiting for vid to render?

here are my cpus just roofed. Rig working it's guts out for a 3 minute vid. Guess I'm gonna need a 12 or 16 core smile.gif

Rendering can take a while for sure! I remember just waiting a long time when I was rendering the audio of my A Celestial Voyage demos some years back. Then you render something, realize afterwards you have made a mistake and have to wait yet another 20 minutes.

I hear ya! I've had that happen a lot. You miss one little thing and here goes the render again smile.gif It's easy to miss stuff sometimes, especially if you are wrapping up at 4am.

There's always something to fix that is hard to hear before a rendering. I for one can keep finding things to fix when I'm listening to what I still always think is "final render".

Makes me wish for a 16 core chip. smile.gif Waiting 30 minutes only to hear one tiny thing that I missed somehow is just very frustrating, especially at 4am when you have rendered 3 times. But that's life eh?

Yeah, I've been looking at specs of new PCs these days, and they blow my current one, which is just a year old, totally out the water. Of course my current one still runs very smoothly, so I can only begin to imagine how one with 28 cores run.

I've been eyeballing them as well. My quad i7/16gb ram/1tb ssd was the standard music production rig for years but it's starting to feel sluggish. I really wanna try one of those crazy high core machines to see what the rendering is like. It's got to be like having a rack full of machines in one computer which is a good thing IMHO smile.gif

I just looked at one of the Danish sites for making a company build you a computer. It's not that much more expensive than putting it together yourself, I find, but with 28 cores x2 (2 x Intel XEON E5-2680V4 up to 3,3GHz 35MB cache (28 cores), 64 GB DDR4 RAM, and all that you can imagine almost, it runs at a total of about $8.500. I think I'd buy a lesser computer and an Ibanez instead smile.gif

can't you use your GPU to render the effects.?

most of the 3d rendering engine use CUDA to render.... and a high end GFX board of CUDA device is far fastrer than CPU...

Cheers

Laurent

That render time is with cuda enabled sad.gif Magic Bullet looks (color correction) is a render hog. sad.gif

I"m with ben, skip the 8 grand rig. 8 core chips are getting cheap so that probably where to go next.

Quadro p6000 says it's about 5.000 euros or more. I can't afford that! That's 4 times as much as my PC was and about 3 times more than my most expensive guitar!
