We have now replaced the lesson player with a html5 based player.

Functionality-wise this should not be a big change.

My original plan was to make the change as part of a major site overhaul, where we would make all pages (including lesson pages) more mobile friendly. However because of massive delays in the site rebuilding process, we have had to take this step as most browsers nowadays aggressively block flash.

Just a little update form developer-Kris, now back to Shred-Kris smile.gif

Not sure I understand. You've had an HTML5 player for years. Are you saying you've changed the site so the HTML5 player is now used for all browsers? FWIW, I know I've reported this before, but I had to stop using GMC lessons when you switched the player to the HTML5 version because of the problems with it.

This is a new version of that html5 player. Are you still experiencing problems when visiting a lesson page?

You're testing my memory here smile.gif. The only difference I can think of with this version is the volume is muted when you start playback. Is that intentional? It's been a while since I used the old html5 version and longer still since I used the flash version, so I don't remember all the features those had, but IIRC some of the things you lose by switching from the flash version to the html5 version include: volume control, loop points for the backing playback, keyboard control. Also, in case it wasn't intentional, expanding the backing sidebar covers the backing controls.

Works fine on my end on Chrome, though I only see a small change ish. I suppose most of this is behind the scene stuff?

Yes, we have kept the look of the player somewhat the same.

Thanks Laurent, if you click in the middle of the black screen video will probably start to play for you. However it should start to play automatically in both chrome and FF.

Have you tried clearing the cache (for guitarmasterclass.net) ?

Or you can open a private / incognito window in chrome or firefox, and check if the problem remains.

Sorry to be dense, but I'm confused about what's going on here. GMC has used an html5 player for a long time (2 years?). But, compared to the flash player, that has some problems that have been discussed in other threads. Is there any news on resolving the problems?

The difference now is that all browsers (except internet explorer) get the (updated) html5 player. Before, all desktop browsers except Safari got the flash player.

I have tested on Windows with IE, FF and Chrome. With Macos on Chrome, firefox and safari, and with ipad/iphone on safari and chrome. Fran has tested Android 7.

I am not aware of any serious bugs with this html5 player but I certainly do appreciate any help with testing I can get.

Sorry I missed this comment.

All major browsers disallow UNmuted autoplay - they require user interaction first. So there is nothing we can do about it (that I am aware of).

For desktop you can use space bar for play/pause, if you need it when the sidebar is expanded.

It is correct that this player currently does not have volume slider or loop points.

That trick to expand the side bar to use the space bar works in Chrome, but not Safari. I'm having a lot of trouble trying to control the playback position. When I drag it with the mouse it seems to have a mind of its own and usually ignores me smile.gif. Sometimes it doesn't move, sometimes it moves to a different place than where I dragged it. And I don't see any way to get a video to go back to the beginning.

Sorry to be a complainer. With everyone saying this is great, I feel like I must be using a different video player than everyone else smile.gif.

Edit: I discovered if I click at the desired playback location instead of dragging the playback head, it works better. I still can't get it to go all the way back to the beginning though. That's a problem when there's a count off right at the start.

Yes restarting the video from the beginning could be easier. It's a bit easier in full screen mode though.

Using space bar to pause/play backings works for me in Macos / Safari. (not sure I got you right?).

All feedback is welcome btw! cool.gif

Perhaps send me a screenshot so we are100% sure it's not a cache problem? Please also test using File > "New private window" - this should make sure you get to see the latest player.
