Hello folks,

Just recorded something for Todd's Quick Licks, came to put the sound file into the film track and on playback it was like this. I went back into the DAW and played the recorded (none rendered) track and it sounds the same.

I rebooted and tried again and got the second file which I find even more weird because the problem fades after a few seconds but only on the video HERE and its the same in my Daw but not in the second Soundcloud version of the same file.

Any ideas?

Cheers

Sounds like a samplerate issue. Swat it back and forth between a new value and the value you want.

Thanks, I haven't changed anything though and why does it disappear after a few seconds on the second take?

All settings and sample rates are the same as all other recordings I've done. I'll try to re-open another project that worked and use that as a template.

I will experiment more tomorrow.

Thanks for your help smile.gif

I don't really know why it behaves like that on the second take. But I know I've had an almost identical issue with my soundcard(motu 624AVB) at times and it's been resolved by changing samplerates back and forth.

Could be something completely different though.

That sounds like clock drift. It happens when recording between digital devices and their clocks are not in sync. Notice they are sync for a while, then drift apart? Try setting your audio interface to get clock from the outboard device.

Just to eliminate some issues, try using a fresh project that isn't templated. Create a project that has the same sample rate as whatever your hardware interface is set set to, then record just a bit. See if you notice the odd thingy happening. If not, then bam! smile.gif Done.

Also, I"m assuming you are using the same hardware device for input and for output? E.G. a scarlett or whatever? Because sometimes, folks end up using a processor for input, then the scarlett for output as the scarlett is attached to the monitors. If the sample rate on both devices isn't the same, it can cause issues.

So one device, new project, manually set sample rate in project and device, record. smile.gif

Yeah, I'm quite certain the problem isn't the sample rate. It sounds like clock drift. However, changing the sample rate, then putting it back to where it was originally will reset the clock. Resetting the clock in this way will put the clock back in sync, but that's usually only a temporary fix. Setting the clock source properly is usually the only way to fix it. Some outboard devices expect that they will be the clock master, so you have to give them control of the clock.

As you mention, resetting the sample rates is a quick and dirty way to put the clock back in synch and find out if thats the issue smile.gif Hopefully it's that simple.

I don't remember off hand if Phil is using just the scarlett with audio input from the helix or not. I remember there was some issue of some sort a bit back and he was re patching.

If it's just the helix for ins/outs then just resetting the clock on the helix should do it right? So phil? What's your setup like at the moment?

Much like VERC, I've had similar issues and had them resolve simply by twaddling with the sample rates a bit. But hey, we shall see right? Maybe Phill needs to reset his master clock!

Thanks everyone,
Recording from Helix USB as I have for the last few months, changed nothing. In fact I remember now, for that second take I opened a fresh project.
Cheers
