Hello folks,

I always thought that if I was at home more I would practise a lot more. Maybe in different circumstances I would, but at the moment I'm struggling to sit still during the day time, I'm feeling immensely anxious, I can't concentrate, work is concerning me hugely. I manage to get my usual practise slot in, for some reason that time of day feels a little better but even then I feel very very tense.

Are any of you managing to disappear into your practise area for hours?

Cheers

Phil

Yeah I haven't been able to do that since I was ~18!

I found that what works for me - especially in these difficult times - is to have a specific task, ie:

* write a backing
* record a collab take
* Record a REC take etc

That triggers me to sit down with whatever I am doing until I am finished with it - may it it take 1 hour or 8!

It's just the constant churning in my stomach, I pick my guitar up, put it down, walk out of the room, walk back in, repeat on loop. I seem to calm down a little bit in the evening though. I guess I'm that used to being at work my brain can't adjust and with all this crap going on it's making me worse.

Thanks for your input though Kris wink.gif

Do something related, like making a backing track or practice a song you've always wanted to work on. Just try diverting your program in the most useful way possible, I'm doing piano for example on computer for the past 3-4 days smile.gif

Thanks Mertay,

That's the thing I can't seem to focus on anything, today I cooked a chilli con carne for dinner, and spent the afternoon disinfecting the kitchen, I even took bread rolls from the supermarket wrapping and put into a "clean" bag. I put the packet on the worktop in the utility room, carefully cut the front open, wash my hands, got the new bag, pulled out the rolls without touching the supermarket bag, put them into the new bag and then threw the supermarket wrapping away, scrubbed hands and then washed some bottles of wine in hot soapy water.

I think I'm going insane. I've been a little bit like it for a few years, I've had two very bad cases of campylobacter and that makes you very cautious with cleaning things. You should see me if I have to handle raw chicken ohmy.gif ohmy.gif the doors to the utility room are opened and taps are turned on in advance as are the gas jets on the hob, if I've had to use any steel utensils they get flamed, the I wash hands thoroughly and hold the and of the utensil that was flamed and then flame the other end then drop the utensils into the sink, wash hands, boil the kettle and put boiling water on them, then, and only then, they are allowed back into the drawer which is already open and ready to receive, I then close the drawer with my knee.

This Covid19 has made me ten times worse, my wife popped to the shops yesterday for some essentials, I couldn't watch her put the stuff away, that's why I transferred the bread rolls today, and some crumpets, I was trying to de-corona everything.

Now I'm looking at my guitars, my keyboard, my mouse blink.gif unsure.gif blink.gif aaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrgggggggggghhhhhhh

I've been in self isolation for more than 2 weeks so here's a simple solution for preventing covid at home. First of all, clean the house like you normally would but specially the kitchen and the entrance door...this is basically the first floor at my house where I've carried stuff from the market etc.

Now at the entrance of your house, place a sprey filled with chlorine and water mix. From now on, anything you bring to the house will be sprayed with that; the market bags, packaged-canned food...specially under your shoes if the shoes stay in the house. After spraying everything, get a bag from kitchen and put the food in it. Then take that food pack/cans and wash out the chlorine at kitchen sink. For bread, throw it in the microwave or burn it a bit on stove fire (covid dies quick with high-heat). Vegetables are also immediately washed in kitchen sink and finally clean kitchen sink. If you want to clean your hand right at the doorway, get hand cologne (must be %70 or 80 alcohol) or any hand sanitizer. I do this even if I buy just 1 food or pack of cigarette. The important thing is the doorway should be the main barrier, once that is passed clean its fine to feel peaceful at home.

Covid isn't airborne if you're away from people, though it does lives on surfaces gets weaker every hour (just a few hours then immune system handles it or it dies out) and finally you have to hold hands with someone sick for around 20-30 sec.s to absorb it through skin. These simply mean you don't have to worry from catching it through skin, specially at home. Thats why they keep saying to clean hands regularly during day time.

Most people get sick cause they use mass transit or simply being stupid and live their lives like they used to. Since you're careful, you're safe now. Also you're not in the age-risk-group, age 65-70 and higher are at risk. Unless you already have serious lung issue, worst is you'll feel a bad flu for 3-4 days. Likely it will be very minor pain compared to campylobacter.

As for psychology, the first week was the worst for me. I think I mentioned that in another topic, restlessness similar to how you feel. By week 2 this passed, only some mild boredom smile.gif funny thing is I barely watch any TV or shows which was also unexpected for me, to be honest I'm kind of enjoying the isolation these days smile.gif

I feel your pain. I usually love to pratice. Lately, all this virus drama seems to be having a negative impact on just about everything. Making it hard to concentrate on other things. I've decided to only watch news/social medai after my practice time as it seems to sorta wreck things if I watch news before practice. Social media is the same. I've started putting social media after practice as well since it it full of more virus related posts.

some great advice from mertay as usual. Can't be too careful these days. If you've got some hand sanitizer left, it's rare these days, you can use it to clean your hands and then rub it on anything you bring in from the store, soapy water works as well. soap is cheap and bar soap is just about the only soap left in stores here. Good news is that soap is soap wink.gif

Thanks Todd,

I have plenty of soap, but I've been wondering about the hand sanitizer, it's anti bacterial and this is a virus.

I often wake up at the weekend with anxiety but this week is been daily and doesn't go away very quickly, the churning stomach, tight chest, it's horrible.

We've stopped watching the news before bed for now.

Cheers

Phil

Most say prefer soap if possible, cause it not only kills but washes away.

Yeah that's what I've heard, and does the antibacterial gel actually do anything other than kill bacteria? I'm thinking along the lines of antibiotics aren't used for a viral infection only a bacterial infection.

It's just high level alcohol killing it. Its great when outside but at home not really, cause some discuss using too much alcohol on hand may weaken the immune system of hand skin on the long term.

In viral cases, if needed antibiotics only helps secondary symptom's caused by a virus. Like keeping control of fever till the immune system or other drugs get rid of the virus.

Thanks Mertay,

it's anti-bacterial gel not anti-viral, I don't know if the alcohol kills a virus. There are many conflicting things going around.

Alcohol must be 70% in the cleaner, then atleast for Covid it will work.

In Turkey hand sanitizers aren't very popular, we traditionally use Cologne. Difference from something like an aftershave or perfume is natural ingredients are added to it (mostly lemon) and the smell isn't strong like a perfume. There are 100's of different types of it.

Some have less than 70% alcohol so the goverment here warned to use/buy minimum 70% (can go up to 80%) to prevent Covid.

Sanitizer of a decent mix of alchohol will kill the virus on contact. Soap works great too and actually better. Sanitizer is for when one can't get to ones own sink and ones own soap smile.gif

I have stopped watching the evening news as well. I only watch a bit of news these days as it's almost impossible to get away from, try going to youtube. Every other video on the front page seems to be about the virus. I've started watching old movies instead to avoid adverts about the evening news. Just the trailers for the news are getting more disturbing.

The good news is you get to spend some extra time with your wife and guitar smile.gif So there is a bit of positive result. Gotta focus on the good bits these days.

No news channel is saying anything about the 99% survival rate so all we see is deaths deaths and more deaths.

This is a very interesting article and not scaremongering even though it might look it at first.

I think that there will work similar mechanics as any other form of anxiety/depresion/tension. The trick is to keep your mind busy. Kirs have a great input on this. Try to make yourself some particular tasks to complete during datime. Practise with guitar alone could be hard to keep the focus away from the situation outside, but...practiseing with a lesson or backing can do the job smile.gif

Thanks buddy.

My main concern of worry and anxiety has been work and my staff, there was no time to prepare really but we have been speaking with our accountants this morning and they are on the case with all of the help available from the government. I feel a bit calmer now things are getting under control with the finances. We've done all we can to keep the staff safe by sending them home, we now need to help them financially and also keep the business afloat. We need a healthy workforce and a healthy business after this is over.

Thanks again.

Stay safe

Thanks for the share! I think i'm gonna have to cut news back to every other day. It's just all become exactly the same and none of it is really increasing my Zen. All I can do on a personal level is try to be safe, as that's all any of us can really do. so stay in if possible, play guitar or play videos games, smile.gif
