So , Here I am again wanting a different sound, This is just a great Demo . There are so many factors , but a good Pup can get you close before anything else

I think the sh-5 is what I am after and it is not as hot so a volume roll off should clean up

Sh-5 is one of their popular models, I remember fellow blues players rating them high too.

But all PU have a purpose/idea to them and that makes it harder to pick. When I listen to them side-by-side in this video, I tend to favor the more flatter/neutral ones. But in reality I like middy bridge PU's for solo purposes.

Here is a vid based on the original version of this same video. Keith merrow did a great job of it many years ago. Glad to see there is a new version as well!

I really like the gus G pups. I didn't think I would.

Of course, pickups can be cancelled out no matter what they are. With all of the processing available, you can make just about any decent pickup sound just about any way you want it. I have been using the crappy INF pups in my latest ibby and I've been able to tweak my processor to make it sound pretty amazing. with adequate DSP, you can make just about any high gain pickup sound just about any way you want.

I put a hot rail bridge pup in the neck position with a coil split switch and is screams( for a passive) but with that split option, it cleans up so nice

I wish I can try this myself one day as to buy a few bridge PU's and try them on the neck.

What I hope to find is as bridge PU tend to cut more highs, would filter out fret buzz noise to get the action super low for shredding. The dimarzio crunchlab/liquidfire set is sort of toned like that but this also causes them to sound dark so just like your solution, parallel options are a must for versatility.

Though I can almost achieve that with the upside-down air-norton, then the tonezone kind of sound too middy as if I activated a boost pedal at the same time going from neck to bridge. It's not too bad now that I carefully adjusted heights but took me a while... but being so solo oriented I don't always like the powerchord sounds so then eq'ing begins laugh.gif

No such thing as the perfect pickup but if there is, I'd expect it to be paf variant.

The FISHMAN fluence pups can be coil split to give a shiny single coil sound. TOSIN ABASI has a custom fishman set that have a great clean tone. smile.gif

Yes . I have a guitar with the coil splitt option, diffintely the most versatile option ever (IMO) , but also costly if you don't have a guitar already set up for active pups
