Hola Gab,
I hope I find you well my friend. Further to the above post, here is a recording of me struggling through bars 1-9 plus a few notes from bar 10. There are improvements and I have been practising my more familiar parts along with the lesson video but I did this without as some parts are fresh to me. I didn't have time to sort a video out so just Soundcloud I'm afraid. The grace notes with hammer on are still tricky. https://soundcloud.com/gmcphil-1/poor-mans-blues-bars-1-9-fumbling-blues Nos hablamos amigo. -------------------- SEE MY GMC CERTIFICATE “Success is not obtained overnight. Hola Gab,
I hope you're well and doing okay. Further to the two posts above, could you check the bends below please. I'm not sure that they are full bends. The lick starts at around 00:56 in the lesson video. Don't worry About answering these latest questions if you're not up to it buddy. I fully understand. Nos hablamos amigo -------------------- SEE MY GMC CERTIFICATE “Success is not obtained overnight. Hi mate! I'll give you proper feedback tomorrow but this is a quick message to say that the bends are full, your take is not precise but you are close. Again, practice playing the target note and then bending to it to get used to this bend. It's a D note intending to reach an E.

Thanks Gab,
I'll wait for your reply, I think there is some confusion. The notes I was asking you about if they are full bends are the ones in the red rectangle in the TAB above. I'm sure they aren't D to start with. Again, reply in your own time buddy, no rush. Oh! I was talking about the bends in your take at 00:56. Now I've checked the lesson and yes, these are "full" bends as well.
I'll copy the link to lesson to have quicker access everytime I need it: https://www.guitarmasterclass.net/ls/PoorManBluesSolo/ Hola Gab, Stay strong my friend. We can but walk this rocky road when others have left the path. Obviously I didn't know your grandmother but I know she most definitely loved you to the bones and wouldn't want you to be upset, she would want you to be happy for all the good times you had together and the love and good things she passed to you. Here is a poem by my favourite poet, Christina Rossetti. I hope you find some comfort in this poem my friend, and too, in the song version I've chosen for you not only because the words are from the poem but there is also a beautiful guitar solo. Maybe, to help you through, you could transcribe the solo and put your own heart into it. Miss Me But Let Me Go Submitted By: sebringirw When I come to the end of the road And the sun has set for me I want no rites in a gloom-filled room Why cry for a soul set free? Miss me a little, but not too long And not with your head bowed low Remember the love that we once shared Miss me-but let me go For this is a journey that we all must take And each must go alone. It's all part of the Master's plan A step on the road to home When you are lonely and sick of heart Go to the friends we know And bury your sorrows in doing good deeds Miss me but let me go. I've picked this song version of the poem because of the beautiful guitar solo in it. https://youtu.be/-4qTZjOpE2s Unfortunately, I have never been able to do this, even melodies that I've known for years and are in my, I just can't work out. Remember the book I was working on?, I still think that would be a good way to possible develop this skill but I can't make up my own examples because I will know the answers. Thank you. Take care my friend. Soon you will be able to look forward, and when you do look back, it will be with happy memories of an amazing lady from Hungary that was your loving grandmother. Our thoughts are with you my friend. Stay strong. Phil Hi again mate. Finally I could listen and read to this song/poem. It's beautiful, I love it. The message is nice, and exactly what I need to hear today. And that's a very nice solo as well. You have a big heart mate. Thank you. Hola Gab, I hope I find you well my friend. Nos hablamos amigo Nice! Thanks for the update! I think that's a good plan. First learning the licks and then polishing and working on details. I feel that this can make the process smoother. Then tell me how it goes. Regarding your takes for the collab... I like the first one. It's sounds good as an arrangement, and it could have a more "lead" feel if you would add more drive, and work on your performance. It could be more slash style in that way. But the current take works as an arrangement very well. I'm not feeling the second one. The note choices are not the most friendly with the backing chords. What's your approach to that part? What are thinking while soloing in relation to scale and note choices? -------------------- My lessons

But the current take works as an arrangement very well. I'm not feeling the second one. The note choices are not the most friendly with the backing chords. What's your approach to that part? What are thinking while soloing in relation to scale and note choices? The first one is a Slash clean patch from TH-U when they give out their monthly freebies, (If I remember correctly). Regarding the second one, to be honest, I usually just wing it, I found the C note on the neck and create a double stop kinda rhythm thing based around that, the second part of the second one needs more. I quite liked that rhythmic part to be honest. Maybe I only hear it in isolation and don't really "hear" the backing chords. I know for a fact that when I'm improvising, as I was on that, my brain/ears lock onto the drums more than anything else. Maybe that's something to do with my lack of pitch recognition, my brain takes the drums as the lead instead. hahah what's happening here?? You'll know all you need from these videos my friend. The Black Country accent/dialect is ridiculed across the land but has its roots in Anglo Saxon English. The last video explains a little bit. Enjoy https://youtu.be/NqIcbLkY2iY https://youtu.be/bzviWAyO6Oc https://youtu.be/vb4MknMqwmA https://www.theguardian.com/education/2003/...on.postgraduate This following video is probably a little bit too much for you but they talk to a dialect coach who has worked on Game Of Thrones, and a University English language professor about the history of the English language and also the Black Country accent, there is something interesting at 12:09 which starts to explain the accent variables across the land, I had never heard of "The Great Vowel Shift" until I saw this. https://youtu.be/n3pfdEZziXU Cheers Phil This post has been edited by Phil66: Jun 16 2021, 08:37 PM -------------------- SEE MY GMC CERTIFICATE “Success is not obtained overnight. Thanks for the advice Gab, when you play "my" notes it sounds so so so much better than when I play them. That rhythmic part based around C sounds great when you play it, like it could be on a record by a top band and the different notes at the end sound great too.
When you said that you could hear similarities with the people in that Black Country video I did smile, I put my "posh" voice on for you so that you can understand me, or in Black Country speak, "so that yow con understond us", a lot of the older Black Country folk use "us" instead of "me". hahah us instead of me??? haha
Spanish lesson: 'dormir apretado' doesn't sound good, it doesn't sound like a good night, it's uncomfortable. I think that the translation would be "sleep pressed". The phrase that we use when we say good evening or good night to somebody is "que duermas bien" (sleep well), or "buenas noches" (good night). Thanks for the advice Gab, when you play "my" notes it sounds so so so much better than when I play them. That rhythmic part based around C sounds great when you play it, like it could be on a record by a top band and the different notes at the end sound great too. Nice! Here you can notice how important is the performance. The same notes can give a totally different feel. The difference is the focus on groove, dynamics, vibrato and bending. That's why the blues teaches us so much. -------------------- My lessons

hahah us instead of me??? haha When we were kids we used to say to the girls, "Give us a kiss" and when they said "no" we'd say, "Goo on me wench, give us a kiss". Translated, "Give me a kiss", "Go on my girl, give me a kiss" Spanish lesson: 'dormir apretado' doesn't sound good, it doesn't sound like a good night, it's uncomfortable. I think that the translation would be "sleep pressed". The phrase that we use when we say good evening or good night to somebody is "que duermas bien" (sleep well), or "buenas noches" (good night). Thanks for that 😉 That’s the problem with literal translations. I translated “Sleep tight” which comes from the old saying, “Sleep tight, don’t let the bed bugs bite”, meaning have a good sleep 😉 It’s funny, when I’m in a Spanish speaking area, I always say "buenas noches" when leaving a restaurant or bar, or when passing the reception staff on the way to our room, I don’t know why I didn’t think of it, maybe it’s because you said “sweet dreams” that I was thinking more along the lines of “sleep”. Nice! Here you can notice how important is the performance. The same notes can give a totally different feel. The difference is the focus on groove, dynamics, vibrato and bending. That's why the blues teaches us so much. I can see that my friend, it's good to hear someone of your calibre playing notes that I came up with and making them sound brilliant, it's inspiring. Maybe there could be a little workshop where students post something, like I did, and you do what you did to show them the way forward? It could be called "The icing on the cake" or "Gab adds the spice" I think groove and dynamics are two of the hardest things to get into one’s playing if you’re not completely comfortable with the notes and the instrument itself. Oh, apart from bending to pitch, that is impossible, only aliens can do that Nos hablamos amigo. UPDATE: Please tell me I'm not going insane. I'm sure that there is another little lick in there where the red oval is. I'm going cross eyed watching the video and listening hard while trying to keep another eye on the TAB I am 99% sure of it but don't trust myself enough given the mistakes I've made trying to sort this GP/TAB out. I know I've corrected quite a few things but I've also got some wrong so that's why I'm asking Lesson link >>>https://www.guitarmasterclass.net/ls/PoorManBluesSolo/ Gracias This post has been edited by Phil66: Jun 17 2021, 09:06 PM -------------------- SEE MY GMC CERTIFICATE “Success is not obtained overnight. That's what I was thinking, let's hope Kris agrees Yes, there is something lacking there. You are right! It's exactly at 1:06 in the lesson. I'll try to work it out, I'm not sure if I will be able to get it into GP without the red bar of error appearing though Further more, I bought one of THESE for my holiday home, I have a Boss TU-3 permanently in my setup at home but bought this to practise my bending.I have to say it's pretty quick, I can't confirm its accuracy but I wouldn't think it's too far off, I'll take it home and check against the TU-3 I also need to tweak the intonation on my guitar. I bought it because I need something to tell me if I'm on target or not as my ears can't do that, YET!!!! Yesterday I spent 30 minutes practising bending up a whole tone. I didn't seem as bad as I am at home for some reason. Here are the results from today. I wish I had put my face on the video now, you'll just have to take my word for it that I looked away or closed my eyes just before bending. I wouldn't cheat, no point, I would only be cheating myself. https://youtu.be/MDWdvhwZtlI Nos hablamos amigo UPDATE: The Snark is very accurate with the meter reading and using the hz reading it is at least as accurate as the Boss TU-3 but you cant use the Hz reading in real time, it has to be done string by string from low E to high E. Found a great pod cast series you might enjoy if you haven't already found it.You use podcasts more than I do so you probably know that it will be listed in reverse order when it opens if you open it in a web browser. Hola Gab,
Further to the post above (with update you may have missed ) here is the missing lick. The note values aren't correct, I don't understand enough about them but just looking at the TAB it should be correct. For the grace note I selected the same grace note that is used in the rest of the GP file which is called "grace note before the beat" the other option available is called "grace note on the beat". Please check it's correct, I'm quite confident that it is. If you don't mind, could you notate it into the current modified GP file for me please? There's no way I can even get it to fit, I've tried but after the first note the others start to overlap with the ones already in there and I don't know the note values either so it would be a complete mess. I've attached the GP files below in both new version and GP5. Once this is all finalised should I submit the GP file to Kris for final inspection so that he can replace the one that is linked to the lesson? Also, the TAB will need modifying too. It's a shame you can't export as TAB, I tried exporting as ASCII but it didn't look very good. Also, it would be good in the lesson description to mention the hybrid picking, maybe even superimpose it over the lesson video in text? Just some thoughts I think I will try to learn my next lesson by just using the video, it seems that some of the older lessons can't be relied on to have the correct subsection videos and/or GP/TAB so it might be better and will help improve my transcribing skills Lesson link >>>https://www.guitarmasterclass.net/ls/PoorManBluesSolo/ Files: poor_man_blues_solo_PHIL_MOD.gp5 ( 5.27K ) Number of downloads: 26 poor_man_blues_solo_PHIL_MOD.gp ( 12.92K ) Number of downloads: 43 Nos hablamos amigo This post has been edited by Phil66: Jun 20 2021, 08:57 PM -------------------- SEE MY GMC CERTIFICATE “Success is not obtained overnight. Yesterday I spent 30 minutes practising bending up a whole tone. I didn't seem as bad as I am at home for some reason. Here are the results from today. I wish I had put my face on the video now, you'll just have to take my word for it that I looked away or closed my eyes just before bending. I wouldn't cheat, no point, I would only be cheating myself. https://youtu.be/MDWdvhwZtlI Hi Phil! It was a great decision to get that tuner. Based on this video, it's really helping you to make your bending more consistent. I strongly recommend you to keep on practicing this every day. You don't need to dedicate 30 minutes, but it's important to do it on a daily basic. You are reaching the pitches perfectly in this video, congrats!! And thanks for the podcast, I'll give it a try. It's nice to hear masters like him talking about music. Regarding your second post, here I'm sharing the lick that the GP is lacking. However, there must be something wrong before it because if you listen to the solo, the 14th longer note at 01:04 is the first note of the measure, while in the tabs there are two notes before it. This makes imposible to add this lick there: Does it make sense? You need to discover what generated this. There must be a problem in any previous measure.
