Hello folks,

I thought I'd share my holiday home setup. Not the biggest corner in the world but it can be done

Very clean I like it, my desk is always a mess

Mine at home is too but I set this up each evening, it takes 5 minutes and I put it all away afterwards with the laptop on a Kensington Lock I don't like to leave it all out as this is the corner of the main bedroom, the other bedroom has two single beds in, a beer fridge and deck chairs so I can't use that

I miss the three screens of home but it's better than nothing. The camera is the Logitech C920 HD Pro, same as I have at home and its attached to one of THESE great devices, same as I have at home, the laptop is the only thing that moves between locations

Being a pedant, it's not a travel trailer, it's a static trailer, I wouldn't be able to tow a 36x12 foot trailer that weighs five tons+ with my car

I have a question for the US members of this post.

I have noticed that most houses there have space underneath them.

Is there a reason why they are not build right on the ground?

These are "prefabricated" houses from the look of it or what we in the states sometimes call 'Trailers" as they are often towed in t position by a tow truck and trail behind. The wheels are often removed when the home is installed. We have large collections of these style of homes here in the states located in what we call "Trailer Parks", however, in England, and in some parts of Florida, these areas are not permanent living, but instead are vacation homes that may sit empty for large parts of the year or be rented out with Air BnB.

PHIL: Looks great!! This vacation home is what many people here in the states just call "Home" on a permanent basis The deck looks great! Also is that car an M2 COMP bmw?

Not exactly sure about the lower 48 (jstcrsn can chime in for down there maybe) since I didn't start building houses untill I moved up here. But up here in Alaska most new homes have a foundation that is 4ft deep in the ground or more (although some are built on a mono slab right on top of the ground) so that the ground doesn't freeze under the foundation and heave or get pushed up by the frozen ground. So a hole is dug and the re-enforced concrete footing, and then the foundation poured or cinder block re-enforced with steel layed from the inside. The hole is then backfilled around the outside perimeter of the foundation before framing begins. There will also be footers on the inside to frame walls on for midspan or third span etc support of the floor of the house or a load bearing wall. A lot of these homes have what is called a 4ft or more crawlspace underneath as a result. This also makes it easier to run plumbing, electrical and ductwork through or under the floor joists and up into the walls or floor similar as you would for a multi level home. It also can save space in the home because sometimes pressure tanks and hot water heaters in some cases can be down there, also it adds room for storage. Water lines are also run deep in the ground and come up in the crawl space from under the foundation to keep them from freezing. Sometimes the perimeter of the foundation is wrapped with rigid insulation to further keep the cold out as well as running it flat around the foundation under the dirt for a couple feet out from the foundation. Sorry for the long winded answer!

These are prefab/mobile home type dwellings from the look of it, so they are probably constructed off site and moved in unless my eyes are playing tricks on me

Obviously. I was answering a question from Steve about home construction here in the states, or more specifically in my case, Alaska. We have trailer parks here too but you will never see one where the underside is exposed like that. They are skirted from the trailer to the ground with insulated walls.

Some people have them skirted, most don't as they're just holiday homes and you can't legally live in one as a main address so most people don't have them skirted as they're not living in them. There are some residential caravan parks and you tend to see all of the homes on those, fully skirted.

Our is fully insulated with central heating and could be used on a residential site

For most people it is an acquired taste, when I was younger, around 18, I knew that everyone that drinks Guiness, loves it, I made a commitment to have a pint of Guinness as my first drink in the pub, even though I didn't like it, I gradually got to like it and ended up loving it. I'm sure you could find an Irish bar where you live that sells it once everything is open again
