I like writing my own songs, acoustic and as a full band.

yet latly ive been stuck for ideas.

has anyone got any routines or tips they use when writing songs?

maybe a lesson on this would be good *hint hint*

Easy way we write songs for our band is to just jam. Don't force anything. I like putting all theory behind sometimes and just play what feels right. Another tip is to use a drum pattern for your metronome if you are writing by yourself. Vary the speeds and just try feel it out. Many times I'll write a part record it and save it for another song. Recorders are ke, because the ideat may not fit in the song now but you might right another song perfect for it.

Learning new styles of music helps opening up the ideas also

Umm, open up a dictionary. Find a word that just calls to you, and write off how that word makes you feel. Or play a video game, and then if something comes to your head while fighting, buidling, driving, or w/e. Then go with that and build on it. Theres many different ways. I also got some ideas from just hearing how my car ran . It made like a certain beat to it, and well I just imaged playing over it.

Thats exactly what I do aswell!

I got one folder with like 50 different riffs and ideas for songs that I've recorded in a couple of months I always have a headset mic nearby and I just use that Windows sound recorded thing to record. Fast and easy, so I can record whatever comes to my mind.

When i start writing a song i base it on 1 riff. Usually i choose a tempo on guitar pro or i just tap for a while.. once i get a good rythem i just play around until i find a key and then just rummage around until i find something catchy.. I use that 1 riff to build everything else off of.. POUR EXAMPLE .. just yesterday i started playing "Book of Heavy Metal" By dream evil. So what i did is i slowed it down and changed the time. Then i started by playing 578578 on the D string. Dropped to Dropped D. Added some open palm muted notes. Added a couple of harmonics and i got the intro riff to a song yet to be named that i will be posting in the next week

I would love some tips. I have troubles writing full songs without music!!

i'm lyrics and music help.
i asked a few musicians i know and i got the idea of thinking of a subject that bothers you and just write everything that comes to your head then organise it and change words etc.

i'd love to see a lesson on lyric writing though, im not exactly the best at that
