GMC Forum _ PRACTICE ROOM _ Basic "string Operation" Video ?!

Posted by: Herr Nest Jun 21 2008, 06:27 PM

Hi everybody out there !

My first post, after several week subscribing to GMC.
To make it short, I've been playing for some 15 years now, left-handed strange guy and more into metal things than any other style (by the way I'm french)
I had a kind of parenthesis in my playing, and getting back to business with the ambition to make my sound clean and accurate. Anyway !

After watching and playing lot of lessons proposed at GMC, I feel the need for something I know can exists but is not proposed (as far as I not digged everything out there) : slow motion and/or zoom on special guitar tricks that are basic for some technics.
For instance, talking about legato which is kind of my Holy Grail ! Easy to get into speed on some basic licks but still hard to have it clean and beautiful when skipping strings for example.
I remember some lessons I had many years ago and the importance of flick-off on the strings while pulling-of. I mean pulling of one finger and kind of stopping on the string below.
It's something really useful and this kind of thing is not explained or showned here. And in my opinion it would be extremely extremely useful for guys of my kind tongue.gif
Many of my requests are for the left hand technics (for me as a left handed it's the right one laugh.gif ) let say the hand on the fretboard ! In my opinion to progress in legato, tapping and ultimately sweeping, it's the source of everything to be clean and know how to be clean (where to put the finger, how to use the tip of finger to mute the upper string and so on and so on)

Each lesson about legato here at GMC goes straight to the point : here's the lick, play it slow first and then gowith more speed. Same for sweeping etc.
Got a chance to see some videos not showing licks to learn but really what's to be done "fingerly" speaking ?

Well, quite long post... Anyway ! Thanks in advance for your help !!!

Go to video lessons.
Click on the Advanced Search tab.
Choose Kristofer Dahl as instructor.
Choose difficulty level 1 to 3
Choose 101 Spoken for lesson type.
Order the results by level.
Enjoy. wink.gif

Well... in fact I'm more talking about things like this (look @ 2:15 for instance):

This guy has a real talent in being teacher in my opinion.
This kind of video is a great reminder or helps to correct bad hand settings.

My point is not to talk specifically about legato but to ask for this kind of videos for any technics.

Thanks anyway !

i understand what you are saying here..

for instance, for soloing it could be useful for people to show people how to mute certain strings, both with palm and left hand fingers (right hand in your case).. or which finger to use when doing this slide etc.
