Blues Improvisation
So Gab as you can hear I play mostly by ear and just have the feeling of the note Im playing over the chord that guides me. I do understand that playing the notes of the chord or playing passing leading in and out of chord into next one is a great way but I can't play like that in real time. Id have to write it out and then play it by ear so to speak. In this video, I just took a quick you tube backing track and played over it with no preparation. Chords are A7, D9, Ebdim, f#7, f#7#9, but I don't want to just play arpeggios and once I start playing I lose track of the progression. Hi Jim, thanks for the videos!
Your playing is really good. I'd like to help you sharing a journey that helped me a lot to learn the fretboard and being able to combine improvisation by ear with following the chords method. We need to start with the basics: Pentatonic Scale. The first lesson combines Pentatonic Major scale with Triads. The idea is that you can visualize both things related all over the fretboard. https://www.guitarmasterclass.net/rhythm-gu...c-scale-triads/ Let me know once you learn this lesson. Wou! Great analysis and feedback mate.
Good to know that you discovered many things thanks to this lesson. And trust me that there is a lot more to get from this one. A good "next step" before we go deeper, is to start practicing this in other keys as well. Once you are comfortable with C major, why don't you try it in G major, A major and maybe D major? The idea is to use this time to be able to find the pentatonic major and major triads all along the fretboard in any key. -------------------- My lessons

Yes! You're completely right. Please don't rush. This shapes are not something that you learn in just a few days. Take your time to get familiar with the shapes, visualize both scale and triads as one thing, and try to also find the CAGED system chord around each shape.
If you do this slowly and deeply, it will last forever. And it will have a big impact in your playing. -------------------- My lessons

So I finished the Rec take this morning and it was a bit tricky. The finger picking was one obstacle but the other was as soon as I hit record on my camera it was 10x harder to produce a perfect take. I had to use a little bit of reverb and delay because the lesson was not musical. I included a bonus video in the take of me using what I learned... REC Take and Application

Hi Jim,
Yes, this is a good choice because it's in C major tonality and you can combine these concepts with the ones learnt in the previous lesson. Besides this lesson. I'd like to see you following a chord progression with major triads. For example, you can use this backing track: Tasks: - Follow each chord with the respective triad. - Play melodies only using triads. - Incorporate G major pentatonic, but target triad notes. - Use Major pentatonics of each chord, targeting triads. -------------------- My lessons
