Hey so i have This guitar http://www.ibanezregister.com/images/image...w-87profile.jpg , i love it, it was passed down from my step dad and now has gained kind of a yellowish tint to its white body.

My birthday is coming up soon though and i wanted to fix it up. So the first thing i was thinking of doing was replacing the pick ups, i want a really good metal sound, right now it has a the stock pickups. Which humbucker would you suggest for that heavy metal sound? or even the other pick ups. More importantly i was wondering (excluding the price of the pickups) how much you think a job like pickup replacement would cost?

On the other hand, instead i might wanna replace the bridge with a floyd rose, kind of like the one marcus has on his strat . Again with the same question which would you suggest, would an operation like this be possible, and how much (not including the price of the tremolo system) would the installation be around?

Thanks for all your help everyone!

The thing about being really stupid, is that there are a zillion ways to be a moron. There are usually several ways to be intelligent, given a situation, but it is a small finite number. But there are always a zillion ways to be to blithering idiot. So finding a new way to have the intellect of an artichoke is nothing to be proud of really, it is easy to do.

So true... To bad im still an artichoke haha

Cool ill look into it, i heard of the seymour ducan black outs, Are they good? and what tends to be the expensive part, the installation or the actual pick up?

And does anyone know if its possible to get a FR tremolo on my guitar?

The Duncan's sound more natural than the EMG's, so they are better in my opinion.

The installation probably costs about 50$-80$, depending on what your local guitar shop asks for that kind of operation. Or you could install the pickups yourself, it ain't that hard and there's a lot of tutorials about it on the internet smile.gif

Blackouts are less sterile sounding than EMG, but EMGs will have that recognizable crunch. The AHB-2 has 2 output modes that you can wire up to a switch, so basically the KFK or AB EMG mod.

Honestly, I wouldn't screw with that guitar though. It's vintage and I'd keep it stock. I would pick up another guitar to make your project guitar so you can have a collectors item.

EDIT: I was quoted paying $40 a pickup, but when I got my guitar set up and bought the pickups through the luthier, he waived the install charge.

For a real hard metal sound i would definatly go for a active EMG bridge pickup. The EMG 85 as used by zakk wylde would be a good choise, or if your feeling flush, the EMG 89 has the same hard Metal feel as the 85 when in Humbucker mode but it has an option of using single coil for a fender style sound, very cool guitar anyway dude!!!!

85 is voiced to be put at the neck, 81 is for bridge.
