I have a BOSS Metalcore Distortion pedal but I want to get a few more to add to my sound. I'm looking hard at a Boss Compression pedal. What else are good or "essential" pedals to have in your playing arsenal?

To me a compressor or sustainer is always a good choice.

You should check out the sould preacher from EHX. To me that one sounds better, than the boss compressor.

If you are wanting to build a pedal board it will come down to price at some point, but starting a distortion box, maybe add a boss chorus, boss compressor and boss delay, but for that price you can get a Boss Multi Board like the GT10 and have wads of effects. So try out some multi boards if possible wink.gif They are handy to power as well, since they run on one plug not several bats or several plugs.

A lot of folks who use separate pedals do so for very specific tone concerns like using a boutique distortion or something. That's wonderful of course. But not cheap.

I can recomend the Boss DD-3 digital delay as a pretty solid pedal, also maybe the MXR Phase 90 if you're into that kind of thing, Also a crybaby is always fun cool.gif and perhaps an Ernie Ball volume pedal for some cool volume swells in conjunction with your delay. all this in addition to the above mentioned Compressor and Chorus pedals, I used to have an old Guyatone Chorus years ago. I don't know what ever happened to it but I thought it was a great pedal at the time. And finally maybe an Envelope Filter, again , if you are into that kind of thing.

I would say that Wah and Delay pedals are always very useful for a pedaboard chain.
