You knew this was bound to happen.... Rolling Stone Magazine had their list, Guitar Xtra had their list, and now its our turn to come up with the list of the 100 greatest guitar players of all time.

*Wow Spider, I'm excited. But how is this gonna work?*

I was just getting to that. Should you choose to participate, this is what you'll do: turn in a list of who you think should make it to the top 20 (or top 10 if you cant come up with 20) in order, as well as a list of honorable mentions that should make it in the 100. We'll also use the thread to discuss and debate the candidates and what-not (and as always, lets keep our debates friendly and fist-fight-clean). If you feel that a certain guitarist deserves a position, tell us why!

We'll keep this going for.......hmmm.... lets say two weeks (but can extend it if extra time is necessary.) and at the end of this time, myself and a panel of judges that know much much more than me will finalize and assemble the list.

At this time, I'd like that panel to consist of:
Unleash-the-Shred
tonymiro
shredmandan
MickeM
mattacuk
botoxfox
The Uncreator
Robin

I think the gap in age/experience will even things out. Also, I know I'm volunteering you guys without your permission (when do I ever get anyones permission to do anything?) so feel free not to take up your panelist duties. Any instructors that have free time on their hands and would like to participate in the panel would also be welcome (and encouraged!).

*awesome Spider, but how do we define "great"?*
well thats largely up to you. off the top of my head, I would factor in these traits:
-Skill
-Style
-Influence
-Achievements
-Innovations
-Originality
-The test of time

Also, keep in mind that this is a list of the Greatest guitarists of all time! Beit, this site is a little more rock-n-roll/blues/metal oriented (and the list will surely reflect that) but it would be an injustice not to mention the guitar greats of jazz or flamenco for example.

The styles we should keep in mind while constructing the list are:
Rock-n-Roll (classic and modern)
Metal (in all its incarnations)
Blues
Jazz
Flamenco
Classical
Country
R&B

Thats about all I can say at this point. If you feel I should add or say anything else, please tell me.
But until then, just go at it. lets see your lists. lets make this happen!

POST YOUR LISTS ON THIS THREAD

EVERYONE IS WELCOME/ENCOURAGED TO PARTICIPATE

Cool idea Spider, looking forward to seeing how it works out, but I beg you m don't make me a judge, I know nothing of most guitarists ... I am genuinely ignorant about s lot of great guitarists, so I wouldn't make a good judge ...

Really, I'm being serious, trust me! I listened to very few guitarists a lot, like Gilmour, Moore, Plant and a few others, but I am pretty ignorant when it comes to Metal and Shred.

Are we all aloud to do this? And if so does it have to be in order of your favourite?

...I'm not really happy with this list at all, there's so many that I can't think of, and I really couldn't put them in order, so I just kind of threw them together... Not to mention, I don't really believe in the "best" guitarist, there are so many different ways of playing!... but, I guess this is my list for now...
