Hi Gab

I’m in trouble right now
The instructors noticed my picking defect.
Today this bad technique prevents me from evolving.

I will try to correct but I am very frustrated, I want to give up and stop the guitar so the task seems difficult.
Fix a defect slowly works, as soon as I speed up the natural immediately returns

Hi MisterM! We are always fixing defects and improving. Playing guitar is infinite! The key is to enjoy playing guitar, to enjoy the journey, there is not a real goal to achieve. I've seen you improving a lot as a guitarist. You've improved your timing, groove, dynamics, expressing techniques, legato.... now it's time to work on alternate picking. Cool!

On the other hand, there are great guitarists like Tom Quayle or Nick Johnston who say that they are not good at picking, and that's why they created their own style based on other techniques like legato and hybrid picking. The same happens with Steve Vai. He had a problem in his right hand and he should focus more on legato and other techniques.

Finally, Petrucci is a picking monster, but I've heard him talking with Tom Quayle about "legato" as one of his weakness.

We all have limitations.

If you want, we can work on your AP here too. Share what's happening with your technique, and if possible a video showing the problem so I can give you my point of view and suggestions.

Thank you Gab smile.gif

This morning for 30 minutes I set my DVMARK Multiamp for recording with cubase.
I finally found a tone that looks like my orange cab... I saved preset..I'm happy it's a good step...

I still have work on the quick licks precision but I think I will record the first part soon...
Then I would try to synchronize part 2.....

Yeah mate!! It's a very cool take! I've just commented a bit there but you already know the things that you need to practice. It passed, I gave you a 7, just to let room to improve the faster licks, give more feeling/groove, and make your vibrato more natural.

Congrats!!!

Hi MisterM!

It's cool to see this videos with speed increased because you can hear if the work is correct or not. I can notice in the first video that you need to cross strings smoother when playing the first legato part. Can you hear how the patterns sound like divided when fasten it up?
Focus on the connection between strings. Your hand position and overall technique looks very good. You can increase a bit the practice tempo.

Regarding the second video, this is trickier for me because I use a different technique which doesn't involve fingers movement. I think that the best would be to call Kris to check this one. I'm writing him right now to check this video.

Excellent - this is the exercise that will allow you to work specifically on the thumb joint movement. To remind you - this technique is what gives me personally most speed and flexibility in picking.

To really hone in on this exercise I would actually advise you totally lock your wrist movement (don't move it at all) so that the thumb joint does all the picking movement. This will not really allow fast picking (unless you play on one string only) - but it will boost your technique. So later, when you try to pick normally, you will start feeling the difference.

It's all about isolating the different "sub techniques" - so that when you put it together your picking will be turbo charged. 👌

Hi Gab

I work my picking slowly every day hoping that the repetition of the movements will correct my faults

I’m still working on your lesson "progressif phrasing", but I think it might discourage me.
I will see in a few weeks because the progression is very slow.

I saw the REC of tflava “B-Minor ballad solo”. This made me want to learn it.
This will motivate me again because for a few weeks I have lost a lot of confidence with these multiple failures

Hi mate! Thanks for the update!

Great to know that you are working on your alternate picking technique. It takes time but you'll see big improvements. Keep the hard work!

My progressive phrasing lesson has a very tricky legato and sweep lick. Don't work on it if you find it discouraging. That other lesson is very cool, I love it.

Hi Gab

Thank you for feed back
In the last few days I’ve had new confidence in myself,

All the day
Alternate picking : 25/30 mn
Vivaldi Winter Arpeggios warm-up 60/70BPM Work 80/90/100 max

Legato & bend : 25/30 mn
B-Minor Ballad Solo
I learned the licks, the legatos are very interesting and give me a very pleasant job at 75%
The last licks is more complicated about articulation, I have to work again

Speed Riff Rock : 10/15 mn
Rocker-Riff 2, the REC of Tadas gives me motivation
I’ll make a video so you can give me the way to go

Hi Gab,

Here a take B-Minor Balld solo 80% speed
The timing is not really good, the noise are audible, legato need precision.
It is a first REC that will serve as a comparison

Hi MisterM! Great idea to share this early take so we can have reference and monitor the progress. You already noted the things that need attention and work here. Continue practicing with those elements in mind and share a new take at least in one week. Ok? smile.gif
