GMC Forum _ PRACTICE ROOM _ What Are You Practising?

Posted by: Gabriel Leopardi May 29 2013, 03:23 PM

Hello guys and why not girls! smile.gif

I'm starting this thread to monitor GMCers progress. I was wondering what lessons, exercises, songs are you practising right now and how the practice is going. Feel free to post a video of your progress here to let me (and other instructors) give you some feedback.

and if you are not practising... (or jamming, or composing) what are you waiting for?

I'm learning new things with Logic (piano roll programming), running over all my solos everyday as well as that Beginner Pentatonic Licks lesson and the first half of the solo to Over the Mountain by Ozzy. Hoping one day Over the Mountain will be like second nature to me as that was my ultimate goal I ever set for myself as a kid wanting to learn guitar - to be able to play that solo one day, and I haven't thought about it for years until I saw that video of the young blonde chic playing it effortlessly, smiling as if it's as easy as tying shoe laces.

Practice for me is going very well, although I have not played the lesson flawlessly yet, every take I do there is something off somewhere - that's why I like originals so much, nothing to compare it against - and anytime I screw up I can say, "I meant to do that".

I'm just having a blast piddling with everything and playing with friends.

currently trying to learn some acoustic song by ear/video to try how I do without relying on tabs,
on classical guitar got to finish Tamacun by Rodrigo y Gabriela soon, or I'll lose a set of strings to the guy playing the other guitar there biggrin.gif

on electric I need to actually pick this guitar up more often and finally do a REC of one of the Instrumental Rock series lessons.

Practicing another lesson by Piotr in Gary Moore style and another Gary Moore lesson made by Denes Nagy.
Some serious bending and some really tender fingertips!
But I'm pretty close but some fast parts I need to spend much more time on wink.gif

I am learning Cosmin's Pirate metal. It is to hard for me but I loved it that much I had to learn it.

I am getting better at it although timing is my main problem and trying to play it clean.I will keep at it and hopefully I can upload it as my first REC in the near future.

Still trying to learn some classic solos. currently on comfortably numb, got the 1st solo learned and halfway through the 2nd and the solo for rush's 'closer to the heart'.
Also began learning YYZ! ...... that one is a 'long term' project rolleyes.gif as Im currently playing a trippy slow motion version.

GMC stuff Im currently learning are - a maiden lesson ,a pentatonic lesson and the venom lesson.

Thank you sir - that's very kind! I did end up getting Guitar Pro and located the tab on that, but this video has helped me even more than that has...

As of late I've been just practicing spots of neo-classical lesons, not the full lesson just some passages to help get some hand sync on a higher level.

Working on sweeps and around 5 lessons 3 of wich I posted all the lessons I'm on are rhythm based, in hopes of getting how these riffs and melodies are formed from scales to sink in

I've been practicing Neoclassical Tony MacAlpine lesson. I've been gradually increasing the speed and almost have it at full tempo (about 85% right now)... hoping to get it down for A REC take in a week or two.

I've also been learning a lot of Led Zep riffs by ear.

Cosmin is very happy to hear that smile.gif You know, the whole thing with this lesson is the pulse/rhythm. Check out this little video to understand a bit more about this:
