Nope didn't think so either. We all know parents don't get this.

* Pm me and I will show you where to start. I am online every day and I will help you out directly!

* Join my mentoring program. I will customize your learning experience in a way you haven't experienced before. We will have regular contact so that you can remain inspired every day and eventually reach a new level.

* Join my next video chat! GMC startpage holds a video chat schedule. We always cover a lot of ground and have fun. Remember that you don't need any previous knowledge, and you can be passive in the chat.

* Jam with me - you will find active collabs here.

* Post a topic on this board, guitar related or not - doesn't matter! You will find that chatting with instructors boosts your motivation to practice.

* You haven't missed my latest video lessons, have you?

* Oh and did you know that to become a killer guitarist you just need to focus on one thing? Everything
else is secondary. Pm me and I will explain.

Hello Ravi!

This is your personal thread - let's use it together for your development. Can you please tell me about your musical preferences, goals and gear?

Cosmin

A brief introduction of myself, I work as a finance professional in a manufacturing organization in India.

I have always loved music, especially, expressive music that conveys lot of emotion; my favorite composers are Chopin and Liszt! My favorite guitar artists/ bands are Santana, Satriani, Jimmy Page, Slash, Pink Floyd, Dire Straits, Deep Purple, Uriah Heep, etc

I used to play the guitar while studying for Mechanical Engineering and MBA. Thereafter, there has been a gap in my guitar playing, and I started playing the piano for a while. I have also done Music Theory up to Grade 8 of Trinity College London. Of course, all this was during my leisure time (which really is not very much). Owing to my busy work schedule, I have not been able to devote adequate time, in the past, to practice the guitar/ piano.

I am now returning back to my guitar. I am very keen to learn how to compose quality guitar solos, apart from being able to play the guitar proficiently. I should be able to devote about 2-3 hours a day for learning the guitar.

I don't have much of a gear. I have an Ibanez RG 370 DX guitar, Korg ToneWorks AX 3000G pedal and an old amp (which is not working well, I have to buy a new one). I have ordered an IK Multimedia Amplitube iRig - Guitar Effects Interface for my iPad/ iPhone, which I should be recieving in 14 days. I was planning to mainly use the Amplitube iRig for my guitar learning process. I also have Garage Band on my iPad, but do not know how to make use of it in my learning process.

My strengths are the little previous music exposure mentioned earlier, strong commitment and drive. My weakness are that I need to learn all the techniques. I see myself as a beginner.

I hope the preceding gives you a fair idea.

Regards
Ravi

Hello Ravi!

Seems pretty clear to me! smile.gif

Well, my suggestion here would be to start out by learning techniques and applying them into musical contexts. In my opinion you should be able to have a good grasp on rhythm and theory as well as articulation (bending/ vibrato) so that your guitar playing basis will be a strong one. What would you say about the following daily schedule:

Technique - alternate picking and legato
Rhythm - understanding rhythm by learning forms and structures
Ear training - relative pitch training
Articulation - bending/ vibrato/ slides
Applied notions - applying all the above in musical contexts

I would also like to ask you if you have anything recorded so that I can have a better idea on your actual playing level.

All the best!

Cosmin

Hi Cosmin
Thanks for the daily schedule, I think it is just right for me to start. But would you give me some more details of how I should go about. You think tapping and pinch harmonics can also be thrown in? or should it be for the later?

I do not have a recording as of now, may be I could record the exercises that you give me, after practising them for a while, and send it to you.

Regards
Ravi

Sure thing Ravi, this was just the outline wink.gif Your tasks are below and I suggest we leave the pinch harmonics and tapping for later. Legato will help tremendously in developing a healthy tapping technique!

Alternate picking: https://www.guitarmasterclass.net/ls/Picking-Hand-Basics/
Legato: https://www.guitarmasterclass.net/ls/Beginn...eginner-Legato/
Rhythm: https://www.guitarmasterclass.net/rhythm-gu...c-metal-rhythm/
Articulation: https://www.guitarmasterclass.net/ls/Bens-Vibrato-Odyssey/
Ear training/ fretboard knowledge:

1) Spot all the C notes on the neck and memorize their sound in the various octaves where they are found
2) Set your metronome at quarter notes to a very slow tempo
3) Pick each C note on one quarter note and sing it in the same time
4) Increase the speed until your fingers will automatically go at the C notes at higher tempo
5) Go back to the slow tempo smile.gif
6) Hit the first C note and follow through the rest of the exercise as before, with the only difference that you will SING the rest ofthe C notes instead of playing them smile.gif

I am very curious to see and hear how you fare with these as I have given them to someone else as well - surprise tongue.gif

What do you think?

Hi Cosmin!
I have started working on the exercises yesterday. I need to strengthen my timing, are there any specific exercises that can help me in that.

Ravi

Hey Ravi! Great to hear that man! Well, one thing which you must do, is tapping your foot against ANYTHING you play. In that way, you will develop a great and unbeatable internal clock which will stay with you for the rest of your life smile.gif

Let's rock!
