I guess that, while playing I've never really focused on my right hand and especially the exact position my pick hits the strings. It's probably because my left hand got all my focus to remember the notes I had to play and put my fingers at the correct places.

So today, I started to focus on where the pick hits the string and all the string jumping, alternate picking and others now play more smoothly. Well, it does not make a huge difference. But still, I can feel I am more comfortable. smile.gif

How do you guys focus on your hands? 50/50? Or are you thinking more about your left or right hand?

Btw, perhaps I focus on my ears and on the music. But I think when I play, I never focus on 3 things at the same time. But, for example, when I have to do a vibrato, I focus on it and then switch back to my right hand.

What do you think? smile.gif

Focusing on few things at the same time is hard,
but after a while and when you set everything nicely
you probably won't need to focus that much on many things
cause everything will be in place, as it should be.
Comes with the time. smile.gif

If you want to work on it, there's a lot of string skipping exercises that would really help you (maybe search eric johnson in the lesson search-he uses a lot of them.) This is one thing that makes fingerstyle guitar very hard, because you have to concentrate on which right-hand finger hits which string.

I spelled my username wrong...I didn't even think that was possible!

Look at the topic for my guitar...
Finished Guitar Build

Gear:
Homemade strat (You still need to look at its topic!)
Squier strat (probably going to get rid of it and get another guitar instead) :)
Line 6 spider amp (not actually used for anything, just acts as a speaker)
Digitech Gnx2 (kind of old, but cheap, and sounds amazing!)

I agree with Muris. Before I used to pay attention what I am doing with the right hand but when my picking got developed to a higher level I completely ignore that hand and keep focus on the left one.

I keep my focus on the left hand most of the time. If there is need I focus on the right hand as well, mainly on slower tempos.

Hmmm I'm usually focused on my left hand in order not to miss a fret when changing positions etc. But if its a harder part for the right hand, I switch my focus to it (when slapping bass for example).
