GMC Forum _ PRACTICE ROOM _ The Motivational Thread

Posted by: Jonas Tamas Feb 3 2013, 01:54 PM

There are times when we feel that we are stuck in guitar playing and we don't see the path before us. Doubts come up easily these times. I thought that it would be useful to start a thread where we write our little or big breakthrough experiences.

So tell us your story, when you had a difficult period in your guitar playing and then you were able to solve the problem. Or tell us a story, when some unexpected success/breakthrough has occurred, and you felt joy and happiness, and got a lot of motivation out of it!

For example, one of my big moments in my early years of guitar playing was when there was an online guitar cover contest, and my entry was voted third best. I still remember how happy I was, and I had seen it as an affirmation that I'm on a good way, ahd it's worth to practice even harder.

What is your breakthrough story?

Well, it's about my first gig with a philharmonic orchestra - for a dude that doesn't read music (knowing where the notes are on a staff, doesn't mean I can READ music laugh.gif ) - it was something breathtaking!

There is a big show happening here in Romania called 'Mozart Rocks!' - the guys know stuff about it here at GMC, as I posted recordings and pics through time, but it's a combo in which various guitarists perform with various philharmonic orchestras, playing renditions of famous classical pieces or famous rock tunes - and some of my friends were in the show already and at some point in 2008 I was invited to perform as well - it was a test actually smile.gif

All I remember is that I was frozen when my name was announced and when I walked on that stage, I can't remembered what really happened, but I sort of 'woke up' when it all ended and the organizer hugged me - it meant it went well laugh.gif

Playing with a philharmonic orchestra must be an unforgettable experience. Is there any video footage from the 'Mozart Rocks!' gig? I'd be curious to see it.

Thanks a lot for sharing your motivational story with us, Cosmin! smile.gif

That's great, "Eine Kleine Nachtmusik" is one of my favorite pieces from Mozart. You did an awesome job!

That was great Cos! I love classical music on guitar. smile.gif

Yeah man!

*My little 3 year old loves that piece. He came running into the room when he heard the main theme.

Thanks guys! Last year there were no concerts in with this project unfortunately although, we had about 5-6 in 2011. It's pretty difficult to organize this event without the right money to back everything up. Let's hope 2013 will bring good news smile.gif

I'd like to ask this question and read the thoughts of all the GMC members who reading it: what do you consider as your greatest personal success with guitar?

It can be a gig, it can be a breakthrough in technique, it can be a positive opinion from an important person - and surely, it WILL be motivational for all of us who are reading your story.
