Let's continue our tapping work and add in a big stretch. Being able to reach notes with the pinky is crucial. It opens up an entire library of licks. In this one we are going to do some Eddie VanHalen style tapping but modify it by doing a chromatic ascent with the right hand and doing a big stretch on the left. Try to leave the first finger planted as you would during EVH tapping. The trick is to reach the notes with the pinky. If you find this impossible, just reach the furthest fret you can. I'm just showing the extreme version of this idea. If you can only reach 3 frets out that is totally fine. Keep doing your hand stretches. It took me a while to stretch enough to get a big reach.

Remember, you don't have to play it as written. An stretch, 3 frets, 4 frets is ok. Eventually, your reach will increase. It just takes some time.

Nice! This is the classic VanHalen type of Tapping. It's crucial to get this approach down as all the other variants are roughly based on it in one way or another. We have done basic tapping before in quick licks but I thought it would be good to do a refresher as we head in to more crazy types of tapping. You do a fine job on this. You've got the technique down! Also, I added a BIG stretch in there just to make it a bit challenging and force folks to use their pinky. The pinky often gets short shrift so I often try to create licks that pretty much have to use the pinky. You did great with your pinky and stuck the landing each time. You got this covered.
