I'm writing a new song in honour of my Jem7v and I am wanting to put in some Major7th Arpegios. I figured out a variation of the Cmajor 5 string sweep that seems to work ok, but I also want to include this pattern:
E||-------9-12-9---------9-12-9---------9-12- B||--9-10--------10-9-10--------10-9-10------ G||------------------------------------------ D||------------------------------------------ A||------------------------------------------ E||------------------------------------------ It is a repeating pattern of 16th triplets. Would you alt pick it, or try and make it a sweep? If a sweep, how would you finger it in terms of hammer-ons vs picked notes? Thanks! it's triplets and since you're the theory teacher... i have to say pick D-U-D D-U-D
The suspected Up strokes are not marked -----D----D------D-------D------D-------D---- E||-------9h12p9---------9h12p9---------9h12- B||--9h10--------10h9p10--------10h9p10------ G||------------------------------------------ D||------------------------------------------ A||------------------------------------------ E||------------------------------------------ This post has been edited by MickeM: Jun 23 2007, 11:05 PM -------------------- My bands homepage

I would definitely play it this way:
-----D----D-U----U--D----D--U---U--D----D-U--- E||-------9-12p9---------9-12p9---------9-12- B||--9h10--------10-9h10--------10-9h10------ G||-------------------------------------------- D||-------------------------------------------- A||-------------------------------------------- E||-------------------------------------------- I had a similar pattern in that JEMTIME song of mine, i uploaded it some time ago. So this picking/sweeping is tested and it's working good. EDIT: took me 300 EDITs to line up the tabs haha This post has been edited by Pavel: Jun 23 2007, 11:17 PM -------------------- "It isn't how many years you have been playing, it's how many hours." -- Prashant Aswani "PRACTICE, PRACTICE, PRACTICE!" -- Michael Angelo Batio Check out my video lessons and instructor board! |

Triplets like DUD sometimes feels aqward but I suspected it was a trick question from Andrew sonce he mentioned triplets. Brilliant! Thanks MikeM and Pavel - I tried it that way and added 20bpm straight away - now to the metronome, cos I'm still short of where I need to be - technically would you call that a sweep? I guess it just qualifies ...
@Ryan - thanks for your response too - I'll practice alt picking it as well for the experience. -------------------- Check out my Instructor profile

Yes i would call that a sweep because it's the same as 3 string sweep.

Starting to enjoy figuring out sweeps - just need to be able to play them a little (ok a lot!) faster now Of course the Jem will instantly give me Pavel like abilities when I get it so that's that taken care of! -------------------- Check out my Instructor profile
