can someone tell me more about chord construction? like how do i form a F chord from a C major scale or Gmajor scale? i heard about the 1,3,5 thing, can someone elaborate more on the formulae to getting the chords

This is a very interesting area - I'll be wrinting a lesson on this soon, part 4 of my intervals harmonies triads and chords will deal with this, and for simpler 3 note chords such as the Majors (these are called triads) there is already a lesson http://www.guitarmasterclass.net/guitar_forum/index.php?showtopic=3342. If you read through that it should explain the 1,3,5 thing.
In addition, the chord is independant of the scale you are using - every chord always has the same combination of notes in it although maybe in a different order, regardless of what scale you are using. You should really look at it the other way - what chords fit with the scale I am using, and yes, I'll be writing a lesson on that too
