I was playing the lesson called: Epic Metal Rhythm Guitar.

I found out that my guitar won't sound as Lians guitar when I bend at the 5th fret.
This is a problem for me with some of the other metal-lessons too. ohmy.gif

When I bend, It doesn't sound like my guitar "screams" correctly.
I tried turning up my amp, turning up the gain controls, different sounds on my board.
It all sounds like a plain boring bend, how do I get the real metal sound?
Any tricks?

Try using vibrato with your bends.... It's all in the wrists.

Also try to rake the strings before the bend. Something like this:

e----------------------------
b--------15b17---------------
g------x---------------------
d----x-----------------------
a--x-------------------------
e----------------------------

That makes your guitar scream, too.

Try hitting the note hard with your pick at an angle.

It's a pinch harmonic you are after, as far as I can hear. Due to just having made dinner (and having to eat it in front of the TV), I am unable to explain about this right now. I am sure, however, that if you search around for it either in the lesson section or the forum, you can find some help on this very topic.

are you familiar with artifical harmonics?

Can you play those other places?

Is your string action fairly high?

I don't know ecxactly what you mean, but I'd guess same as fatb0t...So, sounds like you need vibrato on those bends.

I just found a lesson on Pinch Harmonics.

I'll pratice that. And you're right I think my vibrato-technique could be better.
It's all over the guitar, not only 5th fret.

Thank you all for your help.

(If it doesn't help I'll blame on my cheap guitar)

Yeeeeeeees!

I can already do it. Just needed some simple basic info.
I'm not saying I'm a pro now, but atleast I can make the scream/squealy sound biggrin.gif biggrin.gif biggrin.gif biggrin.gif

That's right, those are pinch harmonics, a whole new technique. Lian does a pinch harmonic and then applies heavy vibrato. Practice harmonics and vibrato separately and then combine the two.

First, try harmonics on higher strings, it's a bit more difficult on the bass strings.

cheers

If you are talking about this (https://www.guitarmasterclass.net/rhythm-guitar/epic-metal-rhythm-guitar/) lesson, then there is not a single bend in it, so you must be referring to pinch harmonics. They can be tricky to get down, but it's definetly worth it, so my advice is o practice that and keep practicing it untill you get them down. There shouldn't be a problem to get them down on a cheap guitar, but they get louder if you have more gain on your amp, but your goal should be to make them shound properly on a clean channel or an acoustic guitar (allthough they obviously won't really scream, but it's a good indication of the fact that you've got the technique down properly)
