Hi guys!

I have made a picking excercise that practises alternate picking, alternate picked arpeggios and inside picking.

Use ONLY alternate picking and start really slow and increase speed as usual.

You might have to use you thumb to finger some shapes. It should be played very smoothly, slow and precise.

Hope you like it!

Yeah, I used to play lots of those! It is tricky, really tricky.
And even trickiest would be to play this with sweeping. I mean, even when you skip the string, to keep the same stroke.
I assume that you play this exercise beginning with both upstroke and downstroke.

My advice to you is to try to play same exercise, everything the same, but in minor. Challenge your self!

Great exercise, should be played with alternate and economy as well.

What is the difference between economy picking and alternate?

Hello Jesse, here's the difference

A|------------3---5---6
E|--3--5--6------------
d u d d u d
D means you're picking down , u - up. So on the tab I showed you economical picking. Economy picking is combination of sweeping motion and alternate picking. Notice that when moving from E string to A, you're picking down twice (sweeping motion). With alternate picking, you would do this:

A|------------3---5---6
E|--3--5--6------------
d u d u d u

To get more into economy picking I advise you to check GMC lessons about that smile.gif!

Cool; I justed noticed I've been using economy picking when moving upwards on the neck and then been using alternate picking when going downwards.. interesting. :-D

Peixe, you did a nice job. Thanks a lot. I like this kind of exercise and I will make it my daily routine. Now I must remember the names of the notes on my strings, reading the musical notation. As a piano player that's easy, but as a beginning guitarist it's a challenge. biggrin.gif

Great exercise!
Those string skipped alternate picked notes are quite challenging, thanks for sharing!

Thanks a lot!

Would be fun to see anyone play this one, maybe record a video or something! smile.gif

The thing I like about this excercise is that you can truly feel the difference just after a couple of minutes playing it!
