Hi guys, I need also help to recording my microphone. I use Sonar 8 and I don't know how to record the microphone. I have a laptop and I use the integrated one, but i also have external devices. What do I have to do to record my track? Thanks What type of microphone do you have and which sound card? You record it the same as guitar. Imagine the microphone is your instrument instead of guitar. Everything else is exactly the same. If you have condenser microphone you need to turn phantom power on (+48V preamp). Most soundcards have it (not built in ones). If you have a normal microphone like Shure SM 57 then the principle is the same as if you were recording guitar. If you are talking about the web microphone then you plug it in and in Sonar choose that sound card input in your Sonar track. Turn the direct monitoring button on and see if the scale jumps as you talk. If you see the signal indicator jumping then you are ready to record. -------------------- Check out my Instructor profile

I don't know how to select my audio card for input. I use the Toneport GX for guitar and if i click on the Input in the track I inserted, I see only None Copy from selected track Toneport GX (2in, 1 out) ... I don't think you can record microphone through Toneport. You need a diferent input for that. Maybe I am wrong, I don't have Toneport. What microphone are you using? Maybe you can activate windows audio driver in Sonar's audio settings so it will show in your input list. This is if you want to plug microphone into your built in sound card. -------------------- Check out my Instructor profile

what kind of plug is on the microphone? 1/4" or XLR (3 holes) usually XLR but 1/4 would work as well even though it is not recomended for a proper use -------------------- Check out my Instructor profile

Since Toneport GX doesn't have mic preamp, you can't use the microphone effectively, you must get external mic preamp, and then go to Toneport.
XLR->1/4" adapter will work, but the signal will have to be amplified in the Sonar instead before the converters which will result in more noise and low resolution files. Not all bits will carry the information for the signal, so there will be some loss. -------------------- - Ivan's Video Chat Lesson Notes HERE
