I have many favorite exercises that I use to play every time I pick up my guitar. I've learnt some of them from a guitar teacher that I had when I was around 15 years old. He taught me how to play shred and neoclassical, and I remember the first class when he shared with me 10 short repetitive exercises that I still practice for endurance and warming up.

I have an exercise which sometimes I make it. To be honest it's not my favorite but who say that you must play only things that you like
 But it's kind of fun exercise and it's the way to force myself to use my pinky finger  When all the notes are played perfect equal it sound really nice.

I said about an exercise not related with GMC.
But, if we talk about GMC and alternate picking........... I can say that I study a lesson with Darek wich, trust me will remain FOREVER my first thing that I will play when I will pick up my guitar. It's the best warm up that I could ever make and it's unbelievable how a lesson (of course, made with the most tiny details) can make miracles for my playing. You will see it soon in Rec I really recomand all alternate picking lessons from GMC for practice routine. I'm with Cosmin about this. The basic theory is important and will be useful for any style. I recommend you to check our theory board clicking HERE.
Regarding studying many styles, this depends on anybody and the capacity of focusing on different things. Personally I wouldn't work on more than 2 styles at the same time to be able to see improvements quickly. Some styles can take many years to be mastered, so the important thing is to keep motivated and working. -------------------- My lessons

Exactly - when I was young, I prepared a daily practice schedule of 8 hours filled, no not filled, CRAMMED with stuff. I ended up practicing 3 hours and feeling a bit lost simply because of the sheer amount of information I was desperately trying to assimilate - darn.. I needed to thin things down in order to really learn. It took me some time to understand this tho See how well you can focus and draw a line after 1 month of practice seeing how much and how well you got things You will be able to figure out things better then
