GMC Forum _ GEAR & PRODUCTION _ Peavey 6505 Head

I saved some money and am willing to spend it on a guitar or an a tube halfstack (don't know yet)
On my search for a good tube amp I came across the Peavey 6505 (former 5150) and I saw that there are 2 versions of it: the standard and the plus version. As far as I know the specs are exactly the same but the plus ismore expensive, about 200euros. What is the diffrence on those two? Is it something neccesary? Is it worth to spend more and get the plus version?

Oh and I am open for every good amp you know for about 1500$ as I don't know which one to buy yet

I pulled off the specs from both amps

6505 plus
120 watts (rms) into 16, 8, or 4 ohms (switchable)
Six 12AX7 preamp and four 6L6GC power amp tubes
Footswitchable lead/rhythm channel select and effects loop
3-band EQ, resonance and presence controls on each channel
Rhythm channel: pre-/post-gain, bright and crunch switches
Lead channel: pre-/post-gain controls
Preamp output
Footswitch included

6505
120 watts (rms) into 16, 8, or 4 ohms (switchable)
Five 12AX7 preamp tubes and four 6L6GC power amp tubes
High and low gain inputs
2-channel preamp switchable on front panel or remote footswitch
Rhythm channel: pre-/post-gain, bright and crunch switches
Lead channel: pre-/post-gain
Channels share 3-band EQ
Presence and resonance controls
Switchable post-EQ effects loop
Preamp output
Footswitch included

Looks like the tubing is the main difference between the two, eq is shared on the standard and on the plus has eq etc on each channel, hope that helps a little

Ok thanks, the equalizer for every channel makes sense but what does the extra preamp tube on the plus change on the sound?

Oh and has anyone played one of these amps yet? I know it's famous for heavy stuff but can I get clean sound out of it?

Yes, that's the two differences. And from what I've heard the + is the one to get and these amps are supposed to be played real LOUD.

Slightly off topic but I played a Peavey Valveking VK100 head recently and was really impressed. Its very well priced too!
