Distance yourself from the shore
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _

This rain is like falling knives
Stabbing at my skin
This wind is an immovable force
Forever I push against
With every wave that I cross
With every ocean that I conquer
I am closer to nothing
For I have no destination
I live for the journey

Distance yourself from the shore
Let the ocean's arms embrace you
Distance yourself from the shore
Further and further away
Never want to see land again
At home on the endless waves

The sun is like a burning sword
Cutting deeper than the skin
This drought is like endless desert
Draining your body dry
With every day that I live
With every breath that I take
I am closer to nothing
My journey is endless
With more pain than gain

The waves seem to never end
The sea seems to always breathe

I am a pioneer with no real goal
I am a nomad heading nowhere

My hands are tied to this wheel
Bound by desire
Bound tightly
To the sea

My heart is chained to the sea
Pulled down by an anchor
Pulled down
To the sea

SOLO

Distance yourself from the shore
Let the ocean's arms embrace you
Distance yourself from the shore
Further and further away
Never want to see land again
At home on the endless waves
Distance yourself from the shore
Let the massive waves overtake you
Distance yourself from the shore
Take me far, far away
I conquer the ocean
Master of the sea

With every wave that I cross
With every ocean that I conquer
I am closer to nothing
For I have no destination
I live for the journey

This started out as a song about a ship captain trying to conquer an immense sea to get home, And turned into a song about a man who journeys the sea forever, never going on land and never really heading anywhere. As they say, "Its not the destination, Its the journey".

I just wrote this, So music might be awhile. Maybe up to 2 months, I have a couple of sea-faring riffs I could use to get me started though.

So you write lyrics first and then the music? Always cool to see how the creative process works for different people.

It changes really, In this case, the lyrics came first. Sometimes they are written at the same time, and sometime the music is first.

Whatever happens, Happens. I dont force anything so it all sounds natural.
