Should I Put In New Pickups?

Oct 10 2007, 12:18 AM	GMC:er Posts: 300 Joined: 19-July 07 From: noneyaa	I'm thinking about replacing the pups in an Old(maybe 15 -18 years old) yamaha pacifica, Alder body, Bolt on maple neck with 22 frets. I was looking for feedback about replacing the existing pickups with some Lindy Fralin P-90's(to get a strat sound). The guitar as it sits right now sounds awful, well awful is too strong a word it has very little tone or sustain. I'm sure it's the pickups as a lot of guitars are made out of alder and have bolt on maple necks with rosewood fretboards and sound really good. I could probably get a good set of Fralins for around $220.00 and then another $100 to put them in. Let's say $350 tops all together. Not sure if this guitar is worth putting that kind of money into it? Then again I probably couldn't buy anything to sound as good for the same money? Thoughts, opinons? Thanks. I don't think they will without some prior cutting och the scratch plate. (if scratch plate is the word?) The P90's are classic vintage pu's, singlecoil so it's not as fat and as modern as your Ibanez in sound. Different size than the singlecoils that sit in your Yamaha right now, also different size compatred to a humbucker. Maybe there are P90's that would fit right in, maybe there's a cavity underneath the scratch plate so you just have to change that. I think it's a cool idea with a strat shaped guitar and P90's if you're going to play rock and blues with it. Maybe one humbucker + one P90 would be cool. Wheter it's wort it or not only you know. But see it like this, you'll get a new guitar after you're done. A guestimation of the price, Two p90's $150 work $80. I don't know what it costs in the US so it's only guesses ok?
