Hey Azereus,

Very cool to have you here again and congrats on your first REC!

This is a cool take and your playing shows great potential.

Your recording is a tad noisy which makes it a little harder to hear the details, ie like the missed notes around 00:58. However my impression is that overall you nailed this.

The most important thing for me to comment on here is your vibrato. When you apply vibrato on the high (= thinner) strings it is very promising. However when applied on the lower strings - it seems you do not utilise the edge of the fretboard as a pivot/leverage point to bend downwards - instead you seem to bend upwards, and you do it mostly using finger muscles.

This is something I don't see very often, because the upward vibrato that you do successfully on the high strings, is often considered harder. The general rule is that starting from the G string, it is much easier to bend downwards using the pivot point I described (see pics below as well).

Hi Azureus!

Recording videos can give us something that is known as REC syndrome. This feeling can make us play much below our current level. Our whole body is not relaxed and everything sounds with much less groove, feeling, and precision. The good news is that there is a solution: Practice. We need to practice recording ourselves with a camera. The more we do it, the more comfortable we'll feel when recording. We've done a cool experiment with a student some time ago: LINK.

Having said that, I'll tell you which things need attention in your playing based on this take:

- Vibrato: Your vibrato should start from your wrist (there should be none or a minimum left hand finger motion), and you need to use other fingers to help the one that is pressing the fret. (Except when you are using your first finger). Check out the original lesson and try to emulate Emir's movement, and notice how he uses finger 1 to help finger 2 when this one is doing the vibrato.

- Bending: As it happens with vibrato, the movement should start from your wrist. This lesson includes many half step bends, be sure that you are reaching the right pitch. You can practice playing the target note and then bending to it to check it the pitch is correct.

- There are other un precisions like slides that don't sound smooth (for example at 00:19), and some ornaments that need to be adjusted (00:41). But maybe this problems are related to the REC issue.


You have a good base here, you just need to focus on those things and this lesson will be mastered soon. Keep on the hard work!!

Nice to see you in the rec section

First of all it is recommended for you to spend some time on recording setup. Your both hands need to be clear (part of left hand has been cut out of the screen). Your guitar doesn't cut through the mix properly. Probably the easiest fix is to boost the guitar volume or just find a different tone - maybe similar in gain amount but more "cutting through the mix" with some middle frequencies. Or...this could be just a fault of camera position. Usually best sound is when the camera is in front of the speakers (not above, not below, not behind).

Don't worry about the tension. You will most probably relax more, the more new recs will come. REC butto nis stressfull but if you keep redoing one take all over again, at some point you stop carring abouot the rec itself.

What takes most of attention as a general issue, is your vibrato. Chris images are spot on - you need to use a side of your index finger, as a resting point. Then you rotate the wrist. Most of typical, electric vibrato comes from the wrist, not from the fingers motion. It is even easier to control the pitch of vibrated notes

keep in mind it is usually easier to make your vibnrato sound in tune, if you keep pulsating downwards (e1 string excluded). Remember that vibrato is not "making circles" around the string, but pulling it down and releasing...so it always go back to a perfect pitch point.
