Hey that's pretty good take you've got here! smile.gif

But it'd go a little bit slower and there are two reasons for that.
You need more accuracy, this is too fast for you atm.
And I think you learned second take of each arpeggio in kind a wrong way.
You have to play each note 3 times, except the last one, that one goes 4 times
and then you have 3nps lick, like always.
Take a good look at the tab, listen to slow videos and give it another try, slowly.
Good effort,appreciated! smile.gif

You're welcome. smile.gif

Just try to fix second part of each arpeggio and do it slowly,
rest of it is fine. wink.gif

I am still wondering something that has haunted me for many years but more so since joining the site.

It is like, when I reach a certain speed in picking I am more less slinging my wrist back and forth.

On the etude I can do a perfect 70 and 90

I can also do a darn good 130 and 160

However, It is like the 110 is in between slinging the wrist and can we call it “selective-picking.”

I can almost do the 110 both ways, now that’s strange

Before you comment on another weird post from me, consider this.

For the past month or so I have concentrated on doing a slinging (maybe called Relaxed) motion at the 70 and 90. This felt very strange to start with but is starting to feel more natural. Like working on relaxed picking is what I have been missing all along, I hope so because, this seems to be helping more than anything I have done so far.

As I said the other day, I think my slow to medium picking was way wrong making increasing speeds impossible. After about 20 combined hours of practicing this, I realized I could hit the 160 pretty good so that is why I posted in the lesson forum.

It is like switching from walking to running you have to change stepping motion or just a very fast walk is all you can get. So to practice slow picking, I must jog very very slow, but not go back to walking.

Doing the medley collaboration forced me to figure out what might be wrong. I had to do the slinging motion to get my part down enough to post. But, it worked.

Medley Video

What are your true thoughts when someone makes a post like this? Not that anyone ever has. LOLOLOL

Thanks.

That's pretty AWESOME post Jason,thanks! smile.gif

Picking is really topic of all topics,
and I can find my self having similar problems couple years
just like you do atm.
Btw,yesterday I had a class with a student who has THE same problem like you,
what a similarity. biggrin.gif

The "relaxed" picking isn't something I would suggest you,
at least not for practicing.
Try using "well coordinated" picking on every speed,
which means, hit and feel every note you're playing,no brushing.
To understand what I'm saying pick up an acoustic guitar and play the same thing.
You'll notice lacking of sound when you do relaxed picking,
and that is NOT good sign...
Someone will say "where's dynamic then?".
Dynamic is something else, this is picking issue, nothing more or less.

You must be aware of EACH SINGLE NOTE you're playing with the pick,
if you're not feeling it then you're doing it in a wrong way.

Add more aggression in your picking, not too much tho,
keep your strings safe of snapping. smile.gif

Well, be sure you tell your student about me as well. Love your answers. Your time is greatly appreciated.

So if you see the video above would you say that is wrong, cause I’m slinging away?

Yeah,I've seen it before.
I don't think the main problem is in slinging.
You just need to play a bit harder,at slow and higher speed,
be sure to have good sync between your hands,
and don't forget to practice on acoustic as well,
nylon or steel, doesn't matter,it's great playground for picking. wink.gif

Oh yeah, did you fix the notes for this lesson?

Well, I am doing my usually 10 times at 90 to start my session as I stop to type this, and its complete there. I am sure we agree they are just missing from the 160. But hey, I could call it the way I play it. LOLOL

Thanks again.

Try it slower then and take a better look at the tab,
second part if each arpeggio is different then the first one,
grouping is different,check it out.

You're welcome tho. wink.gif

Maybe I am confused, Maybe not. huh.gif You mean the group of PM notes that are the same but different location? You talk about it on the first page of the lesson.

“I play note with index finger
and right after that the same note with pinky”

I have always done these right, just missed a couple @ 160. On some of the PM notes I hit 3 not 4. But I do move my fretting to the new location.

Anyway, I have added the AP Workout and its going great and just as fun. Can do a Beautiful 80 for now. smile.gif And my fretting is getting the workout on this one.

Many thanks once again.

No,not that part, that part is ok,your fingering is good. smile.gif
It's the rhythm grouping in second part of each arpeggio.

This part is ok.

You see bold notes?
You play 2 notes instead of 3 and you change rhythm of it totally.
As you can see, second part includes each note played 3 times, until PM part.
Same deal with other arpeggios.
Try it VERY slow,to understand this rhythmical grouping. smile.gif

Re: Cm etude

Well, it has been about 8 months huh.gif and I now have the 110 down. I plan to make a video for my youtube page of this lesson at the 110, if that’s ok?

I do have two questions.

Is going from 95, where I could play it in jan 08, to 110 in a oct (10 Months) good progress in your opinion?

And

There still feels like there is too much tension in my right hand to go much faster, I want to sling so badly. What is your reaction to this statement?

TIA

Jason

110bpm take seems fine, looking forward to it!

About your progress,it's hard to tell was it good or bad,
depends of how many hours you've spent on it,
10 months doesn't really tell us a lot. smile.gif

But every progress is good thing so I would say thumbs up!!

And to get your picking more relax you should REALLY practice slower,
find a tempo to play at with most comfort, hang a bit on it
and them slightly build it up.
Speed is really not important if you're feeling uncomfortable.
And another bad thing is,uncomfortable usually leads to sloppy playing.
Conclusion, play it slower if you have to but keep it clean
and well accurate all the time. smile.gif
