Hi there 
I would really need some pro help here. What I should aim for in my home studio.
Just wondering here a little;)
As I got my Mac 21/2 I have been on garageband a bit. I also got a DI-Box and was going to use the amps/pedals in garageband. But I really can't get any decent sound from it except the clean ones.
So I was wondering if its better in logic pro x? Or do I have to buy something else, for example GuitarRig 5?
I still will buy logic pro x but what can u, that is familiar to the Macworld, recommend me?
Logic Pro X has an ocean of drums, keyboard and everything u can dream of to use in creating, but, I really need a good guitar sound. I would like to have it on my comp and not a separate, like Line 6 or BOSS.
Any suggestion? Please enlighten me

Todd here! It all depends on
1.)What tone you want.
2.)What you want to spent in terms of cash. (a number would help even if it's a zero)
The guitar sims in logic are fine for clean/medium gain but not high gain. I am a big fan of OVERLOUD TH2 for high gain and share my patches in my personal forum here on GMC. Guitar Rig 4 adn 5 are also good and I Have patches here for those as well. Amplitude is FREE to download so I'd say start there Then work you way up. S-Gear is also good. They all have a free demo period.

The sound of Megadeth - Endgame. Fantastic!Also Michael Romeo sound in Symphony X.
I listened to Mate Nagy's playing on Facebook and that sound was beautiful. And he said it was Guitarrig 4.
I was thinking like maximum 150-200 Euro or similar in dollar.

YES - you will LOVE Logic Pro X. You will LOVE the Pedal-Board FX which can be different for each channel.
I use the built in Logic Bass Amps for bass. For guitar when recording you can find a basic distortion and clean with Line 6 or run direct, or mic and amp - once the tack is recorded dry then use the pedal FX for everything you would need.
Logic X is the BEST $200 anyone that wants to record and write music spend.
Plus - the learning curve from GargaeBand is not near as much of a stretch as ProTools is - it's set up in typical Apple fashion.

Hi mate! I recommend you to try Lepou which are free amp emulators that sounds really good. I'm impressed of the dynamics that you get with them, they sounds so real! Trust me, give them a try.

There you will also find a free tube screamer emulation that I use before the amp emulations and the result is killer. Try it!

As I mentioned, try to download all the major guitar plugins (they all have free demos) and see which ones you like
1.)Amplitude
2.)Guitar Rig
3.)S-Gear
4.)Overloud
5.)Lepou
That should get you started I use OVERLOUD but I like the others as well. It really is just about getting your hands dirty and trying things out and tweaking a bit

I have tried it out now and the result is way above my imagination! The clean ones are soooo beautiful and I have only a little doubt in the metal sound parts, but I guess I need to learn some settings

Now I have tried demo of S-gear and Guitar Rig 5 and I am pretty satisfied!
The ONLY thing is that I now play with headphones (Marshall). They are closed and don't let any sound out and the weird
thing is... when I play a distortion tone I hear the clear tone just before the actual tone appears. Very annoying...
Maybe a couple of real studio headphones would do better?
And I have googled a LOT on the Lepou Amp/Cab plugin. So freakin' good sound on youtube and what you have Gabriel L.
I have downloaded it but I can't get it started!
I have iMac and have downloaded the AU settings cause its the thing Logic prefers.
And the fact I'm a beginner on Mac it has been very frustrating hours. First download the product and then you should put the .component files in Library/(Audio/Plugins. But where is the Library???
More googles and I got the command to "open" the hidden folder...Puh! Finally!
Started up and it came up well
BUT, no sound! I got the clear tone and some sort of effect but noooo, nothing like what I have heard hehe...
Then I switched and put the amp first and the cab after and a screaming tone just blow my ears off!
Tried to do some changes but my patience was very low and the phones were about to hit the wall... But I took a break and now I'm here again a few hours later
I will not try it again...What am I doing wrong??

As for your Headphone problem....
Are you using an Interface to plug your guitar into your PC? See if there is a 'Mix' knob on there and try turning all the way up, also turn the Headphone volume down.

Well, it Seems like you just haven't activated the "direct recording" option in logic. Im still using logic 9 but this option shoud be in your recording preference in logic x as well. You also should mute the direct signal in your audio interface. This is the reason why you're hearing this clean tone( direct signal) together with the distortion sound while your playing. Set your latency to a minimum without having clicks and pops! try different latency settings just until you feel comfortable with it. :-)
So it has nothing to do with your headphones. Good luck!

That problem isn't your headphones more than likely. It's probably your settings either on your daw or audio interface. You are hearing the dry signal and it's just being covered up when the fx signal comes in. There is probably some lag on your fx signal so you hear it a big late after the unprocessed signal.
1.)What daw are you using? If it's reaper, changes your SAMPLES to a lower setting. Keep lowering it and try recording and playing back until you notice it skipping or cutting out. That means go back up one setting
2.)I don't use the LePou stuff for the very reasons your talking about. It's just sort of a pain in the neck sometimes on the mac. Also, it's just the amp. You still need fx, etc. so you end up with a stack of plugins which eats cpu and creates lag. So I skip all that and use a complete package like S-Gear or OVERLOUD. But again, to each his own

It's called "direct monitoring', sorry.
Another important point depending on your RAM memory(and of course CPU power) you have to be careful of how many plugins to use at the same time! To many plugins combined with really short latency will result in annoying clicks. So experiment with it a bit. :-)

As for the headphones..yep, fixed thanks to you! I use a DI Audiobox from Presonus and it has several knobs. I mixed with it a bit and, Voila! A new world opened up with S-gear and couldn't hardly walk away from playing! Awesome! Thanks!

I fixed the headphone issue now but I will check out what the "direct signal" is Man, I really don't know much on technical stuff! I'm to busy playing and thats hard enough ha ha...
But I need to get into this if I'm going to learn some making of own music!

The daw I use is Logic Pro X- just bought it and its huge and interesting!
I can't get Lepou to work properly so I will let it be...for now... Gonna try Overload though. Soon!

I use LePou on pc and everything works great. I open them with a daw like Cubase, I insert them in a track, then open the cab simulator and assign an impulse. I'm not a MAC user but I know that they provide Mac versions so there should be a problem. If you are following those steps, you are not doing anything wrong.

I've compared Guitar Rig with LePou for my lessons and the difference was so notorious for metal. I will prepare some samples to show you the difference.

The free lepou plugins will work, there is a learning curve to eqing things to get a good sound.The videos I have heard from you lead me to think s-gear might be a good fix for a little bit of money.
If you want to try plugins, you will need a tube screamer in front of the amp and impulse(simulations) of cabinets after the amp, in Gabes thread. without these 3 things , I don't think you will get the sound you are wanting

I"m sure he will eventually get the hang of all the plugins For now it sounds like he has some solutions that are working
CRSN brings up a good point about the tube screamer. You really need a screamer to push the amp. Thats what I like about OVERLOUD TH2 is that you can put a TUBE SCREAMER in the chain inside the plugin and save the patch with all the fx settings.

I did a little test with a idea but only with 2 guitars and put one left and one right. I will see if I can put it here, and using S-gear with it! But I did LOVE the sound.
AND I noticed that he put another thing after the LeCab. Something like Gods cab or similar. I thought that the impulser came from the LeCab? First tubescreamer and then ex. an amp like LeGion and then LeCab. But he did put another extra after that. The Gods Cab. I haven't done that but will try that later on:)

Its a cool sound indeed and its interesting;) Its hard to say what sound I really want, I have it in my head and I have lot of ideas that both requires heavy sound but also songs with clean chorus and so on.. It all depends on what I want to play.
But for heavy metal, Numetal, and more shreddy sound is what I looking for right now
