GMC Forum _ PRACTICE ROOM _ Question On Video Editing.

I'm just curious and I might want to try it myself.

But how do people split a youtube guitar video in half or in 4ths so that you can have one video of you playing lead, and then make your own backing rhythm for the other video.

This is an easy task. What program are you using? I can tell you in Sony Vegas. Free ones can't do this.

You need a video editing software like Sony Vegas or Adobe Premier (and others too). There you often have the option to scale down the video in order to make the picture in picture effect...Depends on the software you use, I can give you more detailed info if you tell me which software you use for editing(if I use that one too).

Let's say you work with 2 video tracks. Import your videos in each track. Select one video and go to tools/video/track motion. There you can resize, stretch and position your video anyway you like. The same do for the other one and you'll see them both.

I agree with Emir here !

The best way to do this is in Sony Vegas. Try to find trial version on the official website, if you like it buy it. Its really awesome program !
You can also add audio tracks in there even add text to your videos or animations. Possibilities are endless !

Let us know how it works for you smile.gif

There's a Vegas Movie Studio 9 that is around 50$. It's the cheapest, and gets the job done mate.

It's not Song it's Sony like in Sony Vegas. Vegas is more than enough for you needs mate, I don't see why you would buy anything better. Vegas is great cause you can use it straight out of the box, it's got a low learning curve, but on the other hand you can do some advanced stuff with it as well.

If you do want better software (but more pricier and complex) check out

- Avid Media Composer (~2000$)
- Adobe Premiere (~500$)
- Final Cut Pro (for Mac, ~600$)
