GMC Forum _ PRACTICE ROOM _ A Note For New Members About Rec Zone

Posted by: Phil66 Jul 2 2017, 08:57 PM

Hello everyone.

For the newer members here and a reminder to current members. Please use the REC zone as it is intended. I still feel that many members are waiting until they think their playing of a lesson is ready for a pass grade.

As long as you know all of the lesson and can fumble through from start to finish it is really worth posting a video in the REC zone. Even if you have a mentor, one of the other mentors that assess your playing may come up with an idea to get you over a certain hurdle that your own personal mentor may not have thought about or know about.

I know you can feel bad if your mentor hasn't said you are ready for a pass as if you are like me you feel like you are undermining them, but I honestly think, (and they can speak here if I am wrong) that they will only see it as a good thing that you have posted your work on REC.

At the end of the day, the tutors are a team, each one cannot possibly know how to overcome every hurdle, they may not have come across it in their teaching experience before whereas another mentor may have. Together they are a formidable source of knowledge with a wealth of experience in teaching.

https://www.guitarmasterclass.net/guitar_forum/index.php?s=&showtopic=58319&view=findpost&p=749528 is my latest post to REC, I am not expecting a pass and I've been working on it for quite a while now but there are some elements that I just can't get to grips with. Gab is my awesome mentor and he has been helping me a lot with my issues. As you can see, he has given his input and he is pleased that I have posted.

Please don't look on the REC zone as an exam, it is a place to get assessed on how far you have got with a lesson, a place to get very constructive criticism, a place to get really good advice and above all, a place to help you progress quicker than you would without posting a REC take.

Don't be shy. Use it, that's what it's there for, to help you progress.

Cheers

Phil

That's a great point of view Phill. REC is more for sharing and feedback requesting. Also getting some additional feedbakc form other instructors is nothing wrong even if you have a mentor. Music and playing itself is always a subjective thing. In REC you would get an opinion of 3 different players. You can get the average of the point your playing is at the moment. I belive this is general idea Kris had by adding this section smile.gif
