Building A Guitar

May 30 2014, 04:44 AM	Learning Apprentice Player Posts: 428 Joined: 19-May 14 From: Australia	I'm lucky enough to be building my very own custom guitar from scratch with one of Australia's well known luthiers Perry Ormsby In October. Anyway I've been thinking long and hard of what would be the perfect guitar in my eyes and while I have a ton of ideas I'm always intrested in more. There are a few limitations such as it is a bolt on design (Tho it is a one peice neck) and its none carved top but almost anything else is good to go. My idea so far is Body: Soloist Style, Swamp ash, flame maple Vaneer (No caps in this course) Neck: One piece Rock Maple Fretboard: Ebony. No inlays (maybe 1 at the 12th) Bridge: Licenced Floyed Pickups have me a little stumped since my old favorates use to be EMG 60/81 combo but my new current Fav guitar (86 Charvel) has 1 jackson humbucker and 2 jackson singles. I'd prefer maple to ebony fretboard but to each his own ORMSBY makes some killer guitars, do you have a mockup pic? And its a guitar I'm litrally building myself with him. (The workshop is only like 30 min away from me). Each yr he does a few guitar building courses where u work with him for a week in his workshop and he shows you how to do it and then you start making it. If you get to a point where u don't wanna do something then he will do it for you. I've attached a picture of what I'm thinking about doing. The biggest bit I'm stumped on is pick ups. I like playing everything from blues to Black Metal but I want this guitar to be in the hard rock/metal kinda feel. Kinda want to avoid actives since I really want this guitar to be able to sing and keep its dynamics. Have you seen his multiscales? You are at GuitarMasterClass.net Don't miss today's free lick. Really temped to try some Bare Knuckle Pickups. Sure they are expensive but really wanting this guitar to be speced out. hell I'd consider one of those titanium floyeds if they came in black (tho I never got how they are meant to be better. Isn't more mass= more sustain?) One to look at it is I already have the H/S/S setup on my Charvel I could go H/S/H or even just 2 humbuckers Main thing is I like a big tone diffrence between the bridge to neck pickup You are at GuitarMasterClass.net Don't miss today's free lick. I did a week over here with a guy called Mark Bailey quite a few years ago. Even though I'd been building guitars for about 10 years or so I still learned a whole lot from it!! Worth every penny!! As for your pickups? You could get in touch with Bareknuckle and chat to them about what you want and the materials you're building with. From Blues to Periphhery, these are amazing. 2.)Homewrecker PUNISHER Hand built like the BK and great for Metal. I've got a pair of these. 3.)Budget option: Duncan Alternative 8 Paired with a 59 Bridge in the Neck position. Some folks LOVE ceramic Magnets. Some folks Love alnico It all comes down to your ears. You can find plenty of demos on youtube to give you a general idea The warpig is a great pickup for high gain, aggressive tone. I know the alnico is meant to bigger sounding but ceramic is meant to be a little cleaner and tighter when driven.
