GMC Forum _ CHILL OUT _ Boss Me-25?

Posted by: Todd Simpson Jun 13 2012, 10:13 PM

I've gotten several requests from students for my thoughts on the BOSS ME-25. As a matter of fact, I've gotten so many requests from GMC and youtube that I went and BOUGHT ONE!

Right away I have to say that PATCH 11, MELTED MY FACE. And that the STACK button really does add sick low end bass. Just played it for a while in Guitar Center but it was so impressive I had to leave with it. Full review to follow!

I"m liking it so far smile.gif My only gripe so far is that through the USB, the signal seems to compress under wads of gain. Through an amp it's fine though? Have you noticed this?

I have a Boss GT10 and I hate how it sounds through the USB. I guess it must be similar with ME25.

I tried recording something using the Sonar and running through the USB. The latency was so bad, it could not even be fixed. I also tried playing with a BT using a USB and, again, the latency was so bad, my notes were coming out something like half a second after I played them. Since then, I just run a line from my headphone jack (on the ME) to my microphone jack on the computer. I don't even know if that is okay or not, but no problems thus far.

So far latency has been ok, but I"ve not had any latency issues on my rig as of yet. I'm using a quad core machine running 64 bit OS X 10.7 and it really helps. The problem seem to be with the guitar tone itself, when I add wads of gain per usual, the signal seems to head towards fizzy. I usually push the gain pretty far for leads. But for rhythm sounds and such it's doing great.

The headphone solution should work fine for your laptop smile.gif It's a good way to skip having a second audio interface as well.

Next up I"m going to do a play through with an amp and make a vid.

I cannot wait to see the tones you come up with and I am hoping like heck that you share some of them! smile.gif biggrin.gif

Will do smile.gif I have noticed that it sounds FAR better when run through a real amp than it does when run direct in to a computer. Have you found this to be true as well?

If I use the effects loop on my amp, it sounds better. However, I had an accident doing that: When using the effects loop on my amp (Crate GX212- cheap but VERY loud) it bypasses all volume controls. I did not realize the pedal was fully depressed when I plugged it in. The sound came out so loud, it literally knocked a 16 inch glass light cover off from the ceiling. The glass did not break, as my shoulder broke the fall. ohmy.gif I know it sounds crazy, but that is what happened. It scared the crap out of my wife and our son, who were on the other side of the house.
Since then, I usually either play it through the computer or just use the lie-in on the amp. I actually felt a little let down when I could not find the setting that would make me play like Rob Marcello. biggrin.gif

EXACTLY what I was hoping for! Todd's tones now comprise 11 of my 60 channels (yep, there's eleven of them.) Quite a variety too!Better than ANY of factory loaded ones and also better than any of the ones posted on the Boss web site. Thanks again Todd!
