Hey guys. Here is a idea of mine. How about we make a GMC Guitar Battles board into the Community & Activities board, where our students can make guitar battles about lessons? For example; A student opens a thread that he/she wants to challenge someone about abc lesson. When some other student accepts the challenge, they both post their takes into the thread. Then i can open a poll and our members decide who is the winner. And we can make a point ladder just like REC. Maybe we can give some titles. What do you think about that?

Cheers,
Dogukan.

I am not to keen on the whole idea. If there are technique differences between the two players it can be spotted instantly. When two takes are played on the same technique level what should we judge? Tone similarity or mimics?

There were few "challenges/competitions" here some time ago. There were three lessons to choose from (beginner, intermediate and advanced) for everyone to participate in their corresponding level. Than we had a vote for each category. From my point of view it didn't work well. First of all there can be quite a big gap in skill between two beginners. Secondly if a beginner/intermediate person decides to enter the intermediate group it is just for participation not competition, especially since a intermediate/advanced player that is short on time can also enter the same group...
So the system itself guaranteed that some guys will "lose the race before the signal to start". Don't know how other people feel about it, but I don't like to lose badly.
If that was not enough there are also many ways of judging. One person will learn the lesson note by note with exact same fingering, but will lose to a guy that changed some parts but did something better, for example better bend or had better/cooler tone.

Of course it wasn't "that bad". People, me included had some fun participating, but I often felt that not everything was "as it ought to be".

Hmm...to be honest, I'm not sure about this. In my opinion, GMC is a very helpful community, where students and instructors help each other. A competition like the recent attitude competition is fine, but two students "battling" against each other just doesn't seem to fit into such a helping and caring community.

hey there, I know we spoke about this on PM today smile.gif

one of my concerns that I mentioned in my reply has been pretty much mentioned in the above two replies also, but this is the best place to hang it out there and get some feedback on our ideas.

I`ve actually voted for a "no" on this occasion, again, echoing what the guys have said above but lets see how this pans out smile.gif
