I saw that Behringer had a good deal on an audio interface here while supplies last, and because I have been on the edge of starting, I figured starting small is a good place to start. http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/UMC204HD
I got the U-Phoria UMC204HD. It was on a great sale, and the other half of the equation, it came with a free DAW, Traction 4. While I am sure its not the greatest DAW, hey... it came free. So I figured both of these would be an easy way to get into it. I want to know if there is anything else out there that I should be looking at getting for a home studio/personal recording. Additionally, I play guitar/bass/keyboards and sing. I do not, however, own a drumset or play the drums. I am wondering if there is a drum machine program out there that is cheap-ish... so I can add a drum track to my DAW. I am not very knowledgeable in these types of things, so if I appear like I dont know what I am talking about... its because I dont know what I am saying. |

You can google "free drum samples" or "free drum loops" , these are little sound files where you stack them inside the DAW to make a beat as long as you want.

scrap your DAW, go get http://www.reaper.fm/download.php . it is free and many of us use it and will be able to help. The next thing is to get a good record-able guitar sound ( what do you have)? , after that mertay suggestion for the free drums is a great place to start, and you will also be able to dowload lesson tracks until you can purchase EZ Drummer 2

Sometimes I am just lazy and want others to do that search for me! Haha This post has been edited by gnarkill: Nov 4 2015, 05:06 PM |

I have to agree with CRSN here While I'm sure your daw is fine, REAPER is something that LOTS of folks use so it makes collaboration much easier and makes answering questions about the DAW much easier in the forums. Also I fully agree that EZDRUMMER 2 is the place to start for drums and save yourself a lot of headache and pain trying to piece together drum kits from all over the interwebs.

But when the time comes, I"m with ya Any of the FOCUSRITE stuff is good stuff I"m not so big on CUBASE for the same reason I"m not big on tractor. It's user base isn't quite big enough IMHO. I"m sure it's great an all, but many folks here can answer questions on REAPER, not that many can answer on CUBASE. Some folks can, cause some folks love cubase It's just not got the same level of penetration as reaper. I'd learn both thought One piece awesome of equipment is the Focustrite Scarlett 2i2 and it includes Cubase LE(or the Studio pack, that comes with headphones and condenser mic). It's pretty great, for recording vocals with dynamic or condenser mic, and for recording guitar, bass etc...
Do you use a MAC. If so, I recommend you to check out the drum loops on garagband , for making your first songs they work pretty good. If you want something more sofisticated I would recommend you Addictive Drums or Superior drummer. |
