Just picked this up at a local gun show, and I think it looks nice standing next to a half stack
(yes I'm a dork) Its a 1935 Mosin-Nagant 91/30, manufactured in the former Soviet Union. This particular one was most likely used in WWII, and it just makes me wonder which battles it was used in. This is the same rifle that was used in the movie "Enemy at the Gate."
I still haven't shot it yet as I just picked it up yesterday, but I'm quite sure its just as deadly today as it was 76 years ago. A friend of mine has one and tells me they're a lot of fun to shoot. I'm gonna have to remove all the cosmoline from it before I take it out. Cosmoline is a kind of lubricating and preserving agent that was put on it many decades ago before this firearm was put into storage, and it smells like ass.
There were millions of these produced, so you can pick one up fairly cheap, between $100 and $250. Ten years ago you could buy one for as little as $20. This one came with a bayonet, sling, ammo pouch, and a service kit, which was all standard issue of the military at the time.
The round in this rifle packs a wallop, and can be used for hunting deer and even larger animals. This rifle was designed in a time period (1891) where the battlefield mindset was long distance shots, and hence this rifle has an 800 meter range. So if you're hurting for money and would like a cheap rifle, this is definitely the way to go.
