First of, great job on the lesson Muris. I really dig the sophisticated txt on screen telling us what chords are being played/implied.

Now my question, in simplest terms, is how can one scale imply a chord progression? If you're using all the same notes anyway, how can someone imply the difference in their playing? or am I mistaken and you can actually just play up and down the scale randomly and it'll sound good because all the chords are "in key"?

Good question and thanks for kind words smile.gif

Deal is,scale has 7 notes which means 7 chords, one on each degree.
Now ,in this E major workout you can play only E chord all the time,
would be a bit boring I guess. wink.gif
That;s why I added few more chords, from the same key of course,
to get more music inside,it's still just workout, not a true composition.
And since I lay for a second only on note E,only thing important is
that chord played at that time has E note inside,in its structure.
Hope this helps a bit. smile.gif

In fact scales and chords are so intertwined that the reverse is also true; a chord progression implies the scale. If you are interested in the theory behind this, I have a lesson here.

Congratulations Andrew that lesson is very useful and written in a way even a budgerigar would understand it laugh.gif very very clear and explicative. Thank you!

And Muris your lesson is very useful too smile.gif I have moved it to the adiacent strings staying in the scale, so that one can exercise picking thick and thin strings smile.gif Thanks!
