Guitars with the whammy bar looks like a lot of fun with dive bombs and mid air "dimebag" harmonic squeels, etc!

But how much do they affect your playing or tuning? Raise the bridge position? I heard some even lock the tremolo down in place and get rid of the whammy?

So there's different types such as the floyd rose, zero edge, etc. What do you use? love or dislike about them?

I don't like whammy bar much, but if I chose - it would certainly be a Low Pro edge model !

I am a Whammy Lover, I would rather have one then not
yes If you break a string , it takes 20 minutes or so to get back in shape - this does lends itself to always having afixed bridge for backup
and not just for sqeals but while playing clean , you hit a chord and give a nice vibrato--Lovely
I have never tried any other than a Floyd( licencsed) (since I play left handed and usually don't have options)
but these have always served me well

P.S. azza---- I think you will be impressed with the hellraiser ,It does lack dynamics compared to a gibson ,but I think it will be a better guitar for shredin,as always if you can try one then do!

Thanks for the feedback everyone! smile.gif

As for the Hellraiser, jstcrsn, I heard it's really hot, high gain, pure metal. For metal only I think it would be an ideal pick, still have yet to try one out.

I got one guitar with a whammy and one that is locked. Sure you can do alot of fun stuff with the whammy but it is not that necessary.

I had an Ibanez in the past and it was locked. It never got out of tune in shows or rehearsals thanks to the locked system.

biggrin.gif I like the Lo Pro Edge myself! It comes from the time when Ibanez used to throw in some great axes and good hardware! The model used before the Lo-Pro Edge, I think it was called Edge, was very very good!

Now, I gave up the wammy bar stuff a long time ago, just because I didn't like it anymore. I use a simple tremolo or fixed bridge on my axes. it improves sustain and gives me the possibility of bending strings without altering the tuning!

I can't live without the whammy bar! if it's missing I feel like I'm naked or something,

There's some types of vibrato you just can't do with the fingers...also the dive bombs are fun tongue.gif

I use the whammy on my Ibanez mainly (well, I mainly use my Ibanez most of thetime lol), and the action is the lowest of all, and it doesn't go out of tune. Great axe.

My strat also has a whammy (obviously), but I don't use it much. Stays in tune perfectly too.

I love my trem as well , right now I am awaiting a new reciever for my trem on my Ibanez S series, the reciever broke when I was trying to tighten it up and take out the excess play or slop as I call it, I hate a loose bar.Like Daniel said there are types of vibrato you just cant do without a trem , for example when you do a vibrato with your fret hand you bend the note up and back to get the vibrato which is fine, but with a trem you can employ a wider vibrato that takes the note above AND below the fretted note which makes for a very tasty vibrato sound in my opinion. my favorite trem is the old school floyd rose like the one I have on my early 80's kramer.

i used to hate floyd roses, but they are pretty good for some things, i would love to have a guitar with a floyd in fact.
but right now i got two fixed bridges that i love, and my strat has a floating but vintage tremolo system.

I don't really like whammy that much, but I like to use vintage tremolos on starts for simple tremolo/vibrato effects. Dive bombs, and all, not really interested in those.

I just brought a Axis Musicman recently partly because I've never had a guitar with a whammy bar and the Musicman is such a
Versitile guitar.

And Cause Van Halen and Steve Lukather rock! biggrin.gif

So far I'm loving it. smile.gif

Hey Azz, i have a cheap dinky with a whammy, and it doesnt go out of tone, don't have any bend problem, but had to do some adjustments first!
thing that might happen is my G string going out of tone, but i can solve that in less than 30 sec.
