A little while back I put a Lollar Dirty Blonde set into my Strat, hoping that it would make a worthwhile change from the average stock pickups. It did indeed, but I still felt like they were too polite for me.

As fortune would have it, I was lucky enough to get some pickups from Seymour Duncan to demo (my first demo for them so please make sure you say lots of nice things to them biggrin.gif ) - their "Hot for Strat" set.

I installed them and spent a few weeks with them and am really digging my Strat now. They're pretty much what I want from a Strat pickup - still a true single coil but much beefier. And no icepick from the bridge pickup.

Check it out! http://sixstringsamurai.co.nz/2014/11/30/s...-hot-for-strat/

But could you add a time link at the explanation for the isolated tracks? I find those links very useful when looking for stuff smile.gif

Wellcome in the Seymour family mate! smile.gif Nice job. I do like the tone of probably all ssl's. Though....SSL-1 was probably the brightest/sharpest beast smile.gif

Thank you Darius! I'm usually at least partially in both the Duncan/Dimarzio camps, haha. This is my first time doing an actual demo directly for them though, so I'm pretty stoked about the opportunity.

Those kind of collaborations are cool because of opportunity to test many pickups in Your own instrument and make Your own opinion. I'm not the type of man who would go and buy all models to try them out smile.gif But...with this kind of opportunity I do it with pleasure smile.gif

Nice review!

I added Seymour Duncan Hot Rails to my strat - they can handle a lot more gain but you lose that signature strat sound for sure. Definitely gonna have to check these out.

I get You. I like minihumbuckers for their unique tone but in deed it takes away the signature tone of the strat.

Thanks, Chris!

Yeah I guess the basic compromise is that the hotter you wind your pickups, the more you will lose that vintage single coil tone.
