GMC Forum _ PRACTICE ROOM _ Gmc And Sponsors

Posted by: skennington Jan 6 2008, 12:16 AM

Just wondering if GMC has ever been approached for sposorship and advertising rights. I kinda like it this way without corporate influence, but am curious as to how this site would grow with it. I would think with 3k plus members and growing, Any dealer, mfg, ect. of musical equipment would be interested.

Just curious, What do you guys think?

Hey Mattacuk, howbout one of those photoshop drawings of some type of GMC signature amp or something! tongue.gif

Gawd - I love it with no ads. I really don't like my entire world to be full of ads.

yeah i hate ads so much, thats one of the things that makes GMC so cool imo, its ad free! makes it a relaxing site smile.gif

Posted by: muntahunta Jan 6 2008, 01:24 AM

yea, i dont think people who pay to join this site should have to put up with any ads at all. maybe the people who come here for free can see a banner or two? atleast that way the site is getting something from them tongue.gif

although i'd like to think that wouldnt happen tongue.gif

Posted by: Soul_Decision Jan 6 2008, 01:29 AM

Yes, I like this site being ad free. It's also a very nice community of dedicated guitar players.

Hey Bondy, I think ya got me wrong. I don't want the ads either. Just wanted to see what eveybody thought.
I love this place and don't want it to turn in to a corporate portal as well.
Keep posting the No's!

I know this is a business and We all want the best for GMC. Just thought I'd bring up the topic! biggrin.gif

Posted by: fkalich Jan 6 2008, 03:34 AM

as I killed my tv a year ago (and got rid of cable) being so repulsed by modern media culture, you can pretty much imagine how appealing this notion is to me. I find the chore of my daily cleaning of the 60 pound cat box (for my 8 cats) much more appealing in comparison.

No ads on the website is definitally a bonus...
However, I wouldn't be against some kind of endorsement for teachers.
We could get cool stuff like Ibanez T-shirts to wear during the lessons and would advertise for them like that...

On the whole I thoroughly agree with Fkalich, no ads please. smile.gif

What do you dislike about the t-shirt idea, it doesn't have it be Ibanez, Gibson is big on ads possibly them.

Posted by: Smikey2006 Jan 6 2008, 05:01 AM

Yea haha i think enough advertisement for ibanez goes around here.. to add to the advertisement .. i recommend everyone goes and checks out schecters 2008 line.. its sexy smile.gif including a new schecter flying V

+1

I'd prefer no ads, but if we had to have them we should have them on little things like this.

Yah, Ibanez don't want to be bothered unless you have a problem with a product you bought and then only if you bug them a few times. Typical Japanese company, deliver the goods and forget about asking for something (even information) for free.

Posted by: The Uncreator Jan 6 2008, 05:26 AM

Owen hates Ibanez's , i doubt they would send him anything! laugh.gif

biggrin.gif biggrin.gif biggrin.gif biggrin.gif Thats how i found GMC way to many adverts on UG 99% are rubbish spam apart from GMC of course.

It is lovely not to have ads, but it wouldnt bother me if it benfited the site. I canot count the times I have thought that Korg should sponsor Muris as an advertisment for there Pandora unit !! smile.gif

I mean what greater advert can you have for a product ? The same goes for instructors that use POD's, im sure Line 6 would be well impressed there gear is being used to such awsome effect. smile.gif

If it would benefit the site then im for it- wouldnt bother me much as im using firefox with adblock add-on.

I don't want any ads if I pay for something.
Adds are for sites that are "free" <- you know what I mean wink.gif

We take great pride in not having to present ads on gmc! smile.gif
Also - the most profitable ads for gmc would be for guitar courses that we morally could not endorse.

One kind of advertisement I would like to see (but I don't really know if we will ever get it). Is a kind of advertisement where a sales representant (don't know if this is the title I am looking for but you get the picture) of a certain company (Ibanez or Peavey for example) would get a temporary board of his own to answer questions and promote new products, I think that would be awesome and provide exellent value and knowledge! The whole idea is to have someone from the company present on our site.

Posted by: Juan M. Valero Jan 6 2008, 12:58 PM

I think it's better no to have sponsors. But maybe we can have some exceptions, for instance if any member has a music shop or a label, or something similar. But this exceptions would be allways for members (or staff)...

Posted by: edguy Jan 6 2008, 01:20 PM

he guys this is a complicated topic.
I talked to a friend who has a music shop and ask him if he could sponsor and sell things to the gmc members. I ask him only for interest. He said that he cannot sell things in the usa for example because if there is a big gibson dealer he get no contract with gibson to sell the guitars in the usa. So he has no chance to get a dealer from a brand. As an second example he selled Korg keyboards too cheap and all other dealers call him he had to stop because he destroys the markted prices:)

So i think it is hard for a dealer to sponsor us or to get the official dealer for us because we are spread all over the world

I hope you understand me

That would be a pretty cool thing to have, if it ever comes into par it would be a really great thing. As for little flashing ads on the website.. Do we really need them? I don't think so, GMC has beed ad free since it started and it is still going good.

Giving instructors t-shirts to wear in lessons, that wouldn't be such a bad idea, too bad they will be wearing their GMC instructor shirts instead. tongue.gif

When I first found this site, I thought that was sorta the case with the Parker guitars, since so many of the instructors play them.

Hey Muris, I sent a glowing email to Korg HQ recommending you as a possible endorser or their products, basically I said you were amazing and added a link to a youtube video of you playing Mojo Oro boost, if that doesnt convince them, nothing will laugh.gif
