It would be nice if you could research a little about MIDI, DAW, and VST technologies. THese technologies help you to create backing tracks without knowing how to play instruments. Computer plays them for you.
DAW is a program where you can record, produce, and export your audio and MIDI work. There are also many other features of DAW software, but this is the basic function. Reaper is a nice free DAW software, so I suggest you install it and check it out. It supports MIDI and audio multitrack recording, which means you can have different instruments on different tracks. Also in order to do some decent quality work and have comfort while doing it, it is good to have a fairly strong PC or Mac, 2Ghz,2GB of RAM, and 250GB HD is always recommended as good starting point. Right next to computer, the important component is also Audio Interface, or Audio Production System. It is basically a sound card with ASIO drivers that will work in DAW. There are a lot of product on the market, so if you do need a card, please let us know, and we'll try to recommend something. When you install DAW you can tryout several different VSTi plugins. These are programs that generate or play audio sound in order to emulate instruments while they read notes on MIDI track in DAW (your recording software). So when you choose VSTi plugin (that emulates bass guitar for example) for a MIDI track 1, and it sees a note C it will play the bass guitar sound on C. If you put Keyboard plugin on the same track it will play keyboard patch on C etc.. Check out Steinbergs Virtual Bassist, and Groove agent for some nice premade grooves. These 2 plugins work inside the DAW, and can play a whoel bunch of premade grooves for you - all you have to do is draw the simple notes and they will start to play. If you wanna play and draw MIDI notes yourself you can do it by mouse, but it is recommended to use a MIDI keyboard. This is a keyboard that can draw notes in DAW, that VSTi plugins later follow as I mentioned earlier. Unfortunately I can't say that you can work this way out-of-the-box. I really recommend that you read some tutorials about Reaper here on GMC, and read manualfor any VSTi that you will be planning to use. One way or another, if you really wanna do some music, you just have to know your software relatively well, just as you know your guitar. The more you know it, the more sophisticated your software music will be of course.
