I'm seeing Opeth tomorrow night in Austin, who's jealous? biggrin.gif

But really... This will be my first time to see them. Has anyone here been to their shows? Are they as tight live as they are on their albums?

I've seen them 3 times. Twice they were pretty good and played mainly stuff off their first 4 albums so I was very happy and once they were absolutely appaling. The sound was bad and they were all over the place and they only played songs off the new album which I hate.

Have a good time. I saw them this past summer with Dream Theater, 3, and Between the Buried and Me.

And yes...They are tight! smile.gif

I dont understand the hate against their creativity by some here but hey...whatever.

I saw them a few weeks ago. An amazing show really, Mikael is a really good front man. He talks to the crowd, makes jokes, harasses his band members, harasses the audience, forces people to do solos - it awesome smile.gif

I wish that tour would have come through here! Hopefully the show will be just as great...

Nice review. I hope Serenity Painted Death is still on the setlist. I would like to hear a few more than one off the new ablum, but if they played all the songs I wanted to hear then we'd be there all night.

ohmy.gif i saw Opeth just a few weeks ago with High On Fire... High on Fire is a band i really enjoy but they really didn't fit very well opening for Opeth. Opeth was absolutely spectacular! Everything was flawless! They played stuff off of all their albums. Including joking around trying to play some really old songs which they couldn't remember how to play biggrin.gif. They ended with Demon of the Fall and Encored with The Drapery Falls. In between they played stuff from Watershed, Blackwater park, My Arms your Hearse, Ghost Reveries, Damnation, and Deliverance... they might have played some off of Still Life as well i cant remember. BUT IT WAS AMAZING! best show ive seen in my life i think, if you are a super hardcore Opeth fan and can sing along with every song (like me biggrin.gif) then you wont be disappointed!. The only thing that upset me a little was that they didn't play Blackwater Park. My life would have been absolutely complete if they had but now i have to go see them again in hopes that they play it smile.gif

haha, you're lucky to go see them tomorrow. I bought tickets to their show here in Kansas City for Tuesday way back in August...

Then I find out I couldn't go, because my friend (he was supposed to be my ride) decided to take his girlfriend to the movies AT THE LAST MINUTE! He decided to tell me right before the time we planned on leaving (just about 6:00 PM), after I got all hyped up throughout the school day mad.gif. I spent 40 dollars on tickets to a show I didn't even get to see sad.gif , and I'm definitely not relying on my friend as a method of transportation again, thats for sure...

Hope you have fun, atleast. Bring back a few pictures (maybe even a video or two) for those who missed it smile.gif

Yeah, High on Fire is going to be there along with Baroness. I don't know anything about either of them, but I'm always looking for something new.

Actually, I was having a hard time giving away a ticket for someone to go with me. Luckly, I found someone just now...

I'll have some pictures for sure...

i've seen them three times. First time was with The Devin Townsend band, it wasn an excellent show. Second time was on the Gigan Tour with Megadeth (of course) Arch Enemy and Lamb of God... despite the awesome line-up, this was actually my least favorite show of the bunch because my favorite bands (Arch Enemy, Opeth) got short sets (i think Opeth played maybe 4 songs?) and it was at a big hockey arena and the stupid ticketmaster lady sold us nose-bleed seats instead of ground floor standing/pit tickets like me and my friends wanted. Plus they had these annoying bloodhound security guards that were on you the second you lit up a smoke.

Third time, march of this year, was hands-down the best show. The sound levels were perfect and they had a really long set, played almost all of my favorites, and funny as hell. When you see an Opeth show, its like seeing a metal show AND a stand-up comedy show. As others have said, Mikael has awesome crowd interaction. Even the slower songs they sometimes play are an awesome experience live because everyone's singing along with lighters in the air. It was a really awesome show!

Basically, awesome moments abound at an Opeth show... if they're headlining.
