Line6 Spider Ii Amp Series, Looking for opinions Options

Going to go look and test one out today, a 75W combo amp.

I have a Line 6 Guitarport, and love it, so I'm guessing I will like this.

Anyone have one of these? Also, anyone have an experience with both the Spider II & III series?

I'll be buying this used if I get it, as the Spider II series is discontinued. From what I can tell they are pretty much the same (wattage, amp models, etc) just the III series has a lot of presets.

Other suggestions are welcome... Looking for something I can move around easily, and have in my living room as a practice amp, but can also bring it with me and jam with some people, and at the same time sound good with a lot of versatility, as I like to play just about every kind of music.

I'v got the guitarport and love it!

About amps... everyones taste is different, if you think it sounds good and is useful for playing with headphones in your livingroom and carry around for jamming I bet you thought it through already and that it's the best choice for you.

If it was me, I have different needs, I'd get a small valve amp, not too many Watts so I could cranck it.

If you're happy with the Spider after trying it out, go ahead and get it :-)

I have a SpiderIII 150 combo and overall I'm pretty happy with it. The sound is great, depending on what you are looking for. I like heavy distortion, and the amp delivers it pretty well. There are a couple different style distortions, and they all have their uses. But i think what my favorite thing about this amp is the fact that if i get tired of playing metal(rare) and want to play some johnny cash, the amp has a model that fits nicely(slightly 50's kinda sounding, actually makes my Ibanez sound kinda like a strat).

The clean channel isnt really a bragging point for the amp, its not anything special. It works well enough though for what it is. The effects are nice; the delay is beautiful, flanger's pretty cool, weak phaser, ok chorus/reverb.

Basically if you arent really looking to buy a bitchin tube amp, go with a spider. It's sound is versatile, its flaws hide extremely well when the distortion is cranked.

Thanks, I actually bought it yesterday. Only a 75 watter and the thing is pretty damn loud... figured I would give it a go at half volume, and it started to feedback (I was sitting somewhat close to it), so I scrapped that idea

It's definitely a nice fit for me, because I love playing all types of music, and wanted a variety of tones.

Insane amp model is pretty odd though. One sounds like an alien talking, the other sounds like you're beating on a trash can, hehe.

Insane you just have to get the right settings of drive/eq and it'll sound pretty sick. I use insane(red) for most of what I do. If you like scooped mids thats where its at(though i dont scoop anymore). Insane(green) is too much of a fuzz pedal for my liking, but I'm sure someone does.

Metal(red) Is growing on me, there's a slight but interesting difference between metal/insane.

Crunch works great for indie/punk

Twang for 50's

Blues i dont really use much. I dont think it sounds very "bluesy"


As for volume, I bet. Mine's able to completely drone out our drummer if i wanted it to.
