Hi. I recently purchased the E-mu 0404 usb audio card and set it up how i believe is correct. I have my speakers hooked directly into it and am running a mic and midi keyboard out of it. When i goto record in reason i get latency issues so understandably i have to go change the buffersize in the preferences. When i turn it down to anything lower than 44ms though it becomes unplayable because my speakers crackle so much. It sounds decent at 44ms with little crackle but its still not latency free. Any advice what the problem may be? I have looked into just getting an internal card instead which will save me the hassle of dealing with two cards..my integrated pci and external hud.
Have you read the manual? Often people don't read the manual too decently, and then they don't know what issues can come across.
Assuming that the external is installed ok and you've set it up to use ASIO (if you haven't set up for ASIO then do) then a couple of things that may help:
1) Make sure that the USB port you're using is off the pcb and not an extension/flyer.
2)Make sure its a USB2.
3) Maybe check the PCI latency timer of all the devices in the pc. Graphic cards in particular have been notorious in the past for hogging bandwidth that then results in poor latency for a soundcard.
4)Check your audio settings - 24 bit 44.1 is fine for most situations, any higher and you may well just be using up bandwidth.
Cheers,
Tony
+1 to all Tony says, with non-use of ASIO probably being the most likely culprit!
Yep it was the ASIO driver, thanks for the help everyone!
hey that is my favorite card....she is on the way from Germany to me..cant wait to she gets here...hope you have fun with her....
